Hi, all!
Just thought I'd share an experience I had earlier this spring.
Went and bought some all cotton Jockey underwear [women's]. Had to return it...it was absolutely permeated with some kind of body heat activated scent that really trashed me for a few weeks after wearing it. And when I called to complain, the company rep denied that they had put the stuff on their product.
Now, I can't find any new undies to fit. Can't tolerate artifical fabric, exposed elastic. Need a larger size and a lower price than the organic online alternatives I have found.
So, now what????
Try men's undies?? Are they any better? I am female and glad of it, sure don't want this to force me to cross-dress!
As they keep adding toxins to our clothing, will the time come when I can't tolerate any clothing?
Are others having similar probs? Got any ideas regarding solutions?

Wow-what a bummer about the underwear. For sure they are adding something with the same type of scent in all the clothing. My daughter up in Nova Scotia frequents a chain of thrift stores called Frenchy's and she asked them about the scent even in the used clothing. They said that they fumigate all their clothing I guess to kill 'bugs'. Of course, this fumigant is scented to cover the chemical smell. So my best guess is that all imports are treated like this for the same reasons. I know that they do this to imported new cars as well. This would explain why I always smell the same sickening fragrance on all clothing that I buy in any store. I cannot wear it without washing it in fragrance free detergent first. If that didn't work I would put them in a small basin and use my ozonator to try to zap the chemical smell out of them. Thanks for the info...I was wondering why I had such a bad reaction to that fragrance! Pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, etc. have always caused my worst and most spectacular reactions. The idea that this is a fumigant used on imports makes LOTS of sense, but if so, why is it on the undies but NOT [at least the last time I got them this spring] on new sweatsuits?
I am familiar with using fresh air and sunlight, ozone, baking soda, vinegar, etc. on clothes to remove noxious odors. Some times it works, sometimes it doesn't, even after 6 months to 3 years! Whatever this was. it got WORSE whenever it was exposed to heat. It did not dissipate AT ALL!!!! I have NEVER seen that b4!!!!
I get so frustrated with this stuff!!!! Would probably loose it completely if I did not know that God will soon ruin the ones ruining [I read poisoning, among other things] the earth. [Revelation 11:18]

I find whole milk powder is another thing you can use to get nasties out of fabric. I make a milk bath for stuff in the washing machine and let the clothes soak for several hours in it before rinsing and spinning. I usually then put the items through a regular wash cycle using a plant-based washing powder. So far I've found it works best on perfume. This is new to me. I will try it next time it might be helpful. Do you have any idea of the reason why it works???
Unfortunately, it prob won't help with the stuff pre-impregnated in the above mentioned clothing. This is diff from what gets in our clothes if someone reeking in scent hugs us or something. It is DESIGNED to STAY IN and GET STRONGER!!!! Quite unlikely to be able to get it out.
Also, I suspect that it was not only perfume, but also something else even more toxic. Since the company won't admit it is there, there's no way to know.

This is a reply to # 1,165,729I've had the same experience with Jockey, Elance underwear. They're so heavily scented that thye can smell up a whole room and it takes numerous washings to get it out. I've called Jockey before and they said they weren't supposed to be scented and that they'd look into it. That was a few years ago. Recently, I bought a new box and the same situation exists. Jockey told me to send them to them so they could see/smell for themselves. I told them that all they had to do was open up a box. Anyway, I'm now awaiting a response back. I can't understand why they've failed to correct this---maybe they haven't gotten enough complaints and think the scent is desriable? Poor management.
