Hi golthing,
I would expand the saying of "all things in moderation" to read "all things beneficial in moderation". It just depends on your own point of view and what you see as important and of value to your health.
The Bible also refers to the food of man................
GENESIS 1:29-30.
Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds of the air and all creatures that move on the ground----everything that has the breath of life in it---I give every green plant for food" And it was so.
Vegetarianism can produce cranks as in any other walk of life, but (correct me if I am wrong) but I was always led to believe that being a Christian was also about tolerance and the love for ones fellow man.
One little known fact, is that whether someone is a meat-eater, strict vegetarian, herbivore, omnivore or whatever, the nutrition ultimately comes from the vegetable kingdom.
Carnivores by definition, eat other animals, but they also eat the WHOLE animal, including the blood, organs, flesh and so on; these consumed animals, for the most part, feed on grasses and plants and other nutritious elements from the vegetable kingdom. So, one way or another, ALL animals derive their nutrition from the vegetable kingdom, either directly or indirectly.
I think any host would respect the dietary wishes of their guests by enquiring beforehand if there is any item or classification of foods that they do not eat, out of respect for them, and abide with this whether they themselves agree or disagree.
There are usually ways and means of avoiding any uneasiness about what is actually available on the table.
Your friend who drinks four to five pepsis per day and eats frozen microwaved (or nuked) lunches, doesn't really know for sure if he/she is healthy or not; what may appear to be healthy outwardly, doesn't necessarily reflect what is going on inwardly.
Your comment that "there are too many variables to dogmatically say that a raw diet is the best way to go".
However, a raw plant-based diet has been ordained by God in GENESIS 1: 29-30.
I agree with this paragraph except for the meat and
Genetically-Modified food.
"Personally, I've had more desire for eggs, which are almost always cooked. I've had an increased desire for fruits and vegetables, both raw and cooked. I've had a greatly diminished desire for sweets and processed foods. I still love meat, but am more cautious of the genetically engineered stuff at the local supermarket. There is a huge difference in the meat one gets at the store and what it was intended to be. The grass-fed free-range cattle are much healthier than the grain fed stuff you buy in the store."
