a quick comment on blackwall effect...

This occurs mostly with neg. only ionization. The neg. ionizer emits neg. ions, charges the particles in the air, the neg. charged particles do not find enough positive charged particles, the wall carries a positive charge, and the neg particles attach to the wall. Most indoor environments are low on both pos. and neg. ions.

The nice thing about Ecoquest and also the Sharp unit is that they emit a balance of neg. and pos. ions ... no imbalance occurs; particles attract to particles and drop from the air.

I have many years experience using Ecoquest products and highly recommend them ... I have evaluated the Sharp units and they seem pretty well engineered as well.

Good questions!

I have a couple of thoughts on the Ecoquest and the Sharp products.

In talking to many Ecoquest dealers, the number one reason people do not like their product or do not buy their product is because they did not read the instructions and/or were not patient with the transition between "old air" and "new air". You must run the unit on low setting for a few days and gradually increase until you find the right setting for you. Just like music ... some like it loud, some like it soft. Low and slow wins the race. Changing too fast and all kinds of mild dicomfort can occur. I would estimate it is about a 4-10 day process to really clean and change someone's air with the ECO product. People may have had certain contaminants in their air for months, years, or decades. This change can be a little like quitting smoking or any other bodily vice. The change is for the good, but people breathe air and change can be tough on people. It proves to me unscientifically of the dangerous contaminants that are in our air. If anyone needs any clarification, post a question.

The other responses like humidity, etc ... Different parts of the country need different settings. When we lived in Wisconsin, I would have my units lower than where I live now in Kansas. Wisconsin was humid, NW Kansas is Dry. Electricity and ozone and other "purifying plasmas - oxidizers" behave slightly different at differing temperatures, humidity levels, etc... They used to call the units thunderstorms in a box and since it mimics the way nature cleans the air outside ... interesting side effects can occur when certain conditions are met. Super high humidity can cause these occurrences ... usually it is the change from old to new that I mentioned above that causes trouble. The adjustment period.

My own experience when I move to a new home is that it is colder a few days after we run one of the units. It is my true belief that the particles in the air before the cleaning add some type of insulation or back-and-forth movement (there is a word for that) or something and after the cleaning there are much less particles in the air and thus less insulation. Others have reported that one as well.

I do use the Ecoquest and try to remain impartial ... they are the best on the market for large areas.

Maintenance time is relative ... there are easier to clean machines, but maybe not as effective or $$$ effective.

Fan noise ... you need wind to clean ... both models are adjustable.

I give the Sharp a pretty high rating however I have only used it for a week for my review.

PS many Eco dealers will give you a 3-10 day trial ... consider that. Sharp will probably give you 30 days.

Hello Again "That Air Guy",

I have decided to buy the Sharp FP-P60cx air purifier and have placed my order; I should be getting it soon. After reading and carefully analysing your data as well and info about Ecoquest and Sharp I decided to get the Sharp. I realized that I already have a powerful ozone generator that I use in my home and am pleased with ozone; my family tolerates it well. It was not immediately apparant to me that the Ecoquest used ozone in its process. I will report again after getting the Sharp air purifier and using it.
