High on Water
Our dogs are extremely thin, too. They do get the dry food, (walmart's brand of the lamb and rice -
not "Ol Roy") and only a cup a day each as well. (They each weigh between 30 and 35 pounds). But they also each get a raw egg three times a week, a tsp of olive oil every day, (sometimes twice a day), and whenever I make something for hubby and daughter with beef or chicken, they get a meatball-sized amount of the raw meat and bones! RAW bones. Never cooked.
Like chicken wings. I'll cut the skin only/mostly bone wing tip and each dog gets one a day til they're gone. They already know they have to go outside to eat it - they RUN for the door, waiting for their share! lol
COOKED bones will splinter in the intestines, but the raw bones have the enzymes needed for proper digestion, don't splinter, and thus are digested properly.
I remember my first time, though. I was still scared to try it. I hung onto the wingtip TIGHTLY so they would feel with their teeth how hard it was. As if they would understand me, I found myself telling them, "Now, you gotta CHEW this! Don't swallow it whole! CHEW it!"
Family laughed at me...lololol
