Yes it can. It's called broadcasted pain.
The pain from costo can shoot through your entire frame, and often you can feel it in your entire chest cavity, or one spot, or one side...but the broadcasted pain can go all the way up to your neck, into your armpits, etc.
Costo is a diagnosis of exclusion, so if you've been tested for a wide variety of ailments, and none of the tests prove positive, then they give you a diagnosis of costo.
People with this condition are the most paranoid people I've ever known (and I've been there) because the pain is so severe, and the reason it is caused is unknown. You can make a lot of hypochondrical fantasies in your head. I used to think I had cancer...period. It just wasn't found yet.
The weirdest part of this condition is that it seems to be caused by a variety of things...I had shingles in my area, others have been in accidents, others have had surgery, and others have fibromyalgia, arthritis, lung disease....Why does it settle in this area? I wish I knew. It must have something to do with the trunk, or the pressure put on the trunk.....
Anyway, yes you can get pain in your stomach. Yahoo has a costo forum that is active, and you can find a lot of info there, but it is strongly allopathic. They are now starting to get more into a few natural therapies (having given up on doctors who think people with this condition are mental). But they are taking tons of drugs, having surgery, etc. But at least you can look at their experiences in pain to get a better idea of what other people are experiencing.
Hang in there. At least it (as far as we know) won't kill you, but it can hurt your quality of life.
Ask me anything, I've had this condition for over 5 years now. Went away for 2 years, and is now back.
