UserX
How about letting moderators see the last four digits of IP addresses, or the first five, or
a sufficient portion to enable them to know when they're being spoofed by the same person posting under different user ID's , but not a sufficient portion to enable identity.
The second number and the last three might be enough to give moderators a useful tool, without compromising confidentiality.
Alternatively, create an algorithm that assigns each number in an ip address with a letter. For example, the ip address 124.70.363.82 (I made this number up) would be seen by moderators as AXG.QP.NMN.SX
Or perhaps show only the last six .... P.NMN.SX so if anyone ever figured out the code, they still would not be able to identify the full ip address of posters. Or just show part of it, like A#G.Q#.N#MN.#X with some of the characters being replaced by a wild card, like # or *, etc.
Or something along those lines.
I think this could be a good tool for keeping the place clean. Not so much by administrative action on the part of the moderators, rather, as a deterrent to users who would be aware that if they play games, the mods will know it's them.
Could impact the overall quality of CZ in a very positive way.
