Hi, I'm a 20 year old male and I had my wisdom teeth removed, say, 5+ years ago. I've been cleansing these days and am making sure I have nothing hindering me. How does one detect cavitations? Is there any test or scan that doctors do to see if you have any or not? Thanks a bunch.

Alright, thanks for the response. What do you mean by "clinical data"? Also, how can I find a doctor that specializes in cavitations and fixing them? When I had my molars removed, it really was just a precaution so they wouldn't grow a certain way. I don't think they were doing harm yet. So I dont know if that makes a difference.

no, many times when teeth are pulled to make room for braces, roots from another tooth will fill in that spot, but this is not the case with wisdom teeth, and it does not matter how long ago they were pulled. Clinical data means: Involving or based on direct observation of the patient: a clinical diagnosis. in other words, it is what he sees in your mouth and what you tell him. if you tell me what state you live in, i can give you a list of dentists in your area who may do cavitation surgery. some will want to fill the area with medication or gauze. avoid those dentists or you will have problems. do not take antibiotics for it if they offer. do not use a dentist unless he uses a local anesthetic with no epinephine and no vaso-constrictor.

Alright. Well, I don't really know if I have symptoms. Maybe I do and am just not aware. I guess I should just start off with the x-ray and see if I have a cavitation. I live in the state of California in the United States. I live in the Bay Area, and the town I live in is Pleasanton. It is close to San Jose, San Francisco, and Santa Cruz. you cannot go by symptoms. some people will have symptoms sooner and some won't get them for a long time. and, some ppl have a better immune system and can fight the bacteria better. eventually, it catches up to you, either with illness (a lot of arthritis is caused by them) or by dead jaw bone that needs to have major surgery or collapses your jaw. the immune systemis constantly battling to save your jawbone, so it cannot do it's job as well fighting other things. here are some dentists in california. i don't know them, so go at your own risk.

So, if I have this straight, to fix a cavitation, one has to:

"After scraping out the inside of the tooth the dentist will attempt to disinfect the tooth and the canals to eliminate any source of infection. The canal is then filled with a combination of cement and Gutta Percha in an attempt to completely occlude these canals. This is supposedly to prevent any microorganisms from entering the tooth either through the crown or the root. "

So they have to cut you open and clean you out and then pack you with stuff? I thought you said they weren't supposed to put anything in there?

How much does all of this cost and is it painful and how long does the surgery last?

well, i don't know where you are getting your information, but you just pretty-much described a root canal. we don't don't do root canals. we clean out cavitations that are caused from root canals. cavitations take about 20 minutes to clean or less, depending how much dead jaw bone there is to clean out. the oxygen and nutrients from your blood feed the bone and cause it to fill in. nothing should be put in there. it costs up to $150 in Tijuana. price ranges in the states are from $440. to $2500. per cavitation.

Hi, I did some more research on cavitations and found some text saying that "Most dentists seem to convince themselves that if a cavitation cannot be seen on x-ray, it must not be there. However, a cavitation characteristically cannot be seen on x-ray. While some cavitations can be clearly visualized on a panoramic x-ray, by those who are trained to identify them, the vast majority of cavitations, even large ones, will be completely missed on a careful examination of the x-rays.

Only a cavitation that has formed with additional calcification around a well-defined border will be visualized on X-ray. "

So now I'm confused. Should I just get both an x-ray and Cavitat?

Also, I'm pretty scared about this whole cavitation thing. Is treatment of it easy? How long does the procedure take for fixing cavitations and is it painful at all?

a cavitation is a hole in the bone, and x-rays are meant to show bone, not holes. if the hole is pronounced enough, of course it will show, because the bone around it will be missing. yes, biologic dentists are trained to see cavitation areas which are very small and had to detect. a cavitation, before it makes a hole, will often show as less dense bone. this can be hard to see on a regular x-ray, but a cat scan with small high-density pictures will show it. no, cavitation surgery does not hurt and typically there is not too much pain after and they heal quickly. cavitations take about 20 minutes or so, depending how big they are, how long you have had them or how much bone they have destroyed.
