There are literally hundreds or thousands of healthy babies born vaginally every month to mothers with genital herpes. Given the statistics, a lot of those mothers may not even know they have it. The babies at risk are those born to mothers who get their infection late in the pregnancy, the last trimester. You're waaay ahead of that game. the thing is that the mother's antibodies pass through the placenta to the baby so it's like the baby is vaccinated at the time of delivery. A C-section is not likely to be needed unless there's an active outbreak at delivery time.
The antiviral are so safe that they are very commonly given during the last trimester to ward off the possibility of outbreaks. All the available antivirals very specifically target a unique chemical reaction that is part of the replication cycle of the virus, so the active ingredient isn't active unless it's inside a cell that has the virus that's trying to replicate.
Honestly, today's antivirals are safer than some of the so-called natural treatments and it's MUCH more effective as proven by actual scientific testing. Testimonials just don't count as remotely scientific evidence since some have been shown to be fictitious and there's no comparison to a control group that was treated the same, but with a placebo. A product that is supported by testimonials is one with red flags as far as I'm concerned.
I had several outbreaks the first few months that I had it, but after about a year, I very rarely had a twinge and know to take famvir for a couple days if I do. It's been a long time since an outbreak snuck up on me. :-)
No, you can't destroy the virus by taking all sorts of "stuff". It just doesn't work that way. Check out

for an explanation of why that is.
