How accurate are blood tests in detecting Hypo? My TSH levels were supposedly "normal" last time I did a test about a month ago and yet I have been suffering EVERY SINGLE one of the Hypothyroid symptoms for a few months now! Can I still have it without necessarily detecting it or are blood works the only way to find out? Shall I take matters into my own hands and assume I do indeed have it and self-medicate? I am not a big believer in the orthodox medical system anyway.
I am also doing a Candida cleanse and am aware that some symptoms of various issues may overlap.. As I said bloods came back normal for TSH and hormones as well. Which doesn't make sense, given the stuff we go through sometimes.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!
Yes, it's not only entirely possible but probable that your tests come back normal, yet you could have undetected thyroid problems. I do !!!
I just checked with my endocrinologist last week and she said everything was fine. Now mind you that I have a pretty visible goiter and I'm very symptomatic. Of course the reason I go to her is because at some point it's good to know if one has developed Hashimoto's, Graves or some other such thing, but as far as expecting her to detect minute dysfunctions, I would never give a conventional doc that much credit. And yet, at any level, the thyroid gland can make us feel like garbage if not working properly.
Once armed with the knowledge that nothing severe is going on, I'm free to continue on my own healing path,
So if you sense in your knower that your thyroid is not as spiffy as it ought to be, by all means look into iodine. In a few weeks I'm going to start taking Fucoidan (sp?) You can Google this and see if you like what you read. (....Google will correct the spelling for you)
I have learned to distinguish between what I need to get from docs and what I won't let them touch; the sorts of tests that point out to the possible existence of major dysfunctions, and the things that they don't even acknowledge exist or believe in (think parasites, liver flushes, candida overgrowth, etc., etc.,)
So just go ahead and follow your instincts and supplement and cleanse. Just proceed slowly and see what works for you, and above all, study and research all your options extensively.
Bon Chance. :-)
Alikat, that's amazing! :) Thanks a million for your reply. It made so much sense. I will do exactly that and see how it goes! :) Thanks again...
Totally agree with you there. That's why I remained suspicious even while hearing the nurse tell me matter-of-factly that TSH is normal and that it's all well and good. I think that eventually, nothing in the world beats intuition and self-knowledge. Thanks for your input, it further confirmed my doubts!
My thoughts exactly, and this is just why I thought I'd start up this thread here and see if anyone else agrees with me, which you guys do! Thanks for the confirmation. As I said, I don't trust the orthodox medical system we live under to begin with, let alone the fact that I have been experiencing hypo symptoms (honestly, each and every one of them) while TSH is supposedly "normal" .
So thank you for yet another validation! I appreciate it.
