Nothing could have surprised and amused me more than when I found an ancient post of mine that showed up with something written by LAPIS! I've also seen lots of old posts that are duplicated, disappeared, with missing pictures, inactive links, etc., etc.
I am one of those weirdos that was not happy when Curezone was joined by tons of new moderators that we don't know. There's no denying that things were never all peace and harmony, but at least every mod knew what the other mods were doing and there was no confusion as to who did what. If this weren't so, then we could not have gone back now and checked on Prism's posts to see all kinds of relevant things, including a moderator log which shows no edits by anyone. Unfortunately with the new system in place, in the future an accusation such as the one made by Prism will be anyone's guess, but right now, it is perfectly safe to say that a good number of us can access and verify the same information and see no foul play. Another good thing about the way moderating was handled previously, is that no post was ever edited for content unless the post used foul language, 4 letter words of the X rated kind, or very nasty personal attacks against another poster on a Support forum. By the same token, that I know of, rarely was a poster banned unless someone repeatedly violated the posting guidelines and TOS, and even then we were "supposed" to email the person a waring first and in private.. I don't know how many of the new Mystery Mods are adhering to the same rules, but I strongly suspect things are not carried out with the same level of restraint.
Again, this is not to say that things were perfect, heavens knows they weren't, but at least there was a system which provided for moderator accountability to one another, which is now extinct.
Certainly I think that private forum owners should be able to moderate their own forums exclusively, that way everyone knows whom to address when things get sore, but this process is a lot more difficult when as moderators we can not acces a forum to which we previously had privileges, do not know who the moderator is, but we are sharing in the same suspicions by posters who assume all moderators are having tea together discussing some major global conspiracy carried out within Curezone. That's not fun and a barrel of laughs either, but I too can put on my big girl panties and laugh it off - - how's that?
