Ohmigosh...Tetris was one of our families
favorite computer games early on when the parents
were in their infancy of computing. We would
take turns and of course our kid ALWAYS blew
us out of the water with her high scores.
Still, that euphoric feeling of *making it*
was infectious and finally, just prior to an
intervention, we all breathed in deep and
declared our daughter the winner for all
eternity of Tetris so we could move on with
our lives. None of the other gazillion games
had an effect like that either UNTIL, my
friend here had gone on a game buying frenzy
and she delighted in stirring up some competition.
The game that locked its teeth into my psyche
was ZUMA~! I would let hours pass and in
between chores would constantly check in to
work on my game. We would challenge each other
and delight in our levels of skill UNTIL the
nieces and nephews came and whizzed by us
as if their brains were hardwired into their
fingertips. I finally made the choice to go
cold turkey and took ALL the games off this
computer so the tiny squeaky voice of the
computer games no longer called to me.
I have an older computer for archiving and
word processing only and logged on the other
day and there was my beloved Tetris on the
desktop. I did play a round and relived the
joy of excelling at it if only for a short
time. I also gave myself a pat on the back
for saying no too. It no longer had the hold
on me that it once did.
I have never played Scrabble on the computer
but we have played it many hours here around
the kitchen table. When my friends moved they
took the board and the dictionary with them.
Perhaps a computer version WOULD be fun. The
operative question is however, do you find it
addictive??
be happy, be well,
Zoe
