...a bit naive. Do you really, really think that everyone lives in a part of the country where one could find lush fields and forest preserves? Do you think that for folks living in places like New York City; Union City, N.J.; Miami; etc., it's a just a simple walk to a park? Some people may have a transportation problem getting to many miles away where these things grow, provided there are forests near where they live to begin with. You may not be aware that a very large segment of the national population lives in concrete jungles, or in areas where the flora and fauna are very different or sparse.
Another thing to consider is that few people have had the advantage of being trained to recognize edible herbs in the fields. It usually requires something like living in an area where wild herbs are plenty, having a grandma who knew and used herbs, or having had a penchant for botany to begin with. Otherwise it's not very advisable to go picking and consuming plants if you can't tell a weed from a rose bush.
Then you call a person lazy who doesn't "just get up and do it"!.
Yes, it was a very good suggestion and I thank you for it, but I think your last post was a little callous. :-(
I still think your original message is great, and I personally thank you for the information. But my own point is that many people are not able to have access by themselves to wild herbs, not because of excuses, as you put it, but for genuine physical and intellectual challenges.
Older folks who are not as mobile and may not have any friends or relatives nearby, is one good example. But I see now that I'm allowing this thread to wander far from the original intent, and that is not what I want to do. It's just that sometimes we easily forget that there are many folks that have a hard time doing some of the things that we take for granted.
And BTW, personally, I spend a third of the year lodged in the cushy surroundings of mountains and ocean. I can take long walks on fabulous nature trails and help myself to all kinds of wild flowers and herbs. The other 2/3ds of the year I become aware of how fortunate and blessed I am to be able to spend time in such natural surroundings. Many people I know don't even know such fantastic places exist. Their lack of knowledge is not based on lazyness.
Be blessed :-)
