Deer Animal Totem The deer is my teacher. If we follow the ways of the forest creatures, and all creatures of the Earth, we my learn true connection with the Mother. Mick responded that he had just come back from a "bare foot run up to the water falls", and as he entered the state that some call the runners high, he had these words of wisdom to share with me: "A deer crossed the path in front of me, and I began to chase and track it. I find that in following the paths of other beings, ancient paths of wisdom are revealed. I believe that your feeling for walking like a deer is part of your genetic memory that is awakened when you stimulate your core memory, through the tactile stimulation of moving in the natural way, and the more that you walk in this manner and study the deer, study their paths, walk with them, sleep with them, the more this memory returns to you. The language of the animal totem, and the language of shape shifting, are useful in understanding this memory. I have had many such awakenings during my walk. My first one was the banana slug. They are known in Latin as the Stomach foot, (Gastro Poda) because they crawl around on the ground, with no arms or legs and (only)touch. These teachers of the forest are so willing to teach us. But we must humble ourselves to them as they speak to us. To us the only true teachers are the ones that live with total and complete compassion and connection to all other life, and the only place that I have ever seen any being that "walk their talk", are the ones in the forest. The rest of us are just passing on the teachings, and finding ways to escape from the confinement that stops us from healing. Remember, the deer will not come to you. You must go to the deer.
