Last night was tough: our friends here invited us to this really posh upscale restaurant, with french speaking waiters, that tip-toe to your table and wisper all their specials.. ahh..
a really nice bottle of wine was ordered and poured into everyones glasses. Oh, my - what could I do. Of course, I tasted it. But, i did limit myself and not once my glass was refilled. And I know, with all the people here - juice fasting for weeks on end - this is nothing. But to me - this was a first willpower exercise. The second was - eating only half of my main course (i am not going to get into details of what it was - as it may drive some water-fasting people mad - but it was melting in your mouth). I ate half - the other half though was not wasted (my husband ate it, giving me that strange look - because this is not unlike me to leave such deliiousness unattended). Anyhow - the dessert was also half eaten. And then - I refused the dessert wine - ahh.. and coffee.. just had water with lemon.. and mint tea. But it was fine. The live jazz was playing and I found that it was all pleasant - and I ate and drank just enough. not stuffed myself, didn't get tipsy. I refused the taxi (ah, you don't know, but if presented with any choice of transportation - mine is taxi) and walked to where we are staying (40 minute walk!) with my husband and again didn't take the elevator (he did) to the 6th floor.
Now, this was not hard - I didn't have to sit there at that dinner and deny myself anything (maybe that extra glass of wine or that extra bite) - but reflecting back - this was perfect. And what is really amazing that I woke up today feeling refreshed and well rested. I guess my liver didn't have to struggle with processing alcohol all night, and my stomach didn't have to digest my hearty dinner either. So I was well rested, my complexion is healthy. And it's only the second day after I woke up looking like a corpse.
This morning I skipped breakfast - instead had plenty of water with the freshly squeezed lemon (lemon water has immense health and cleansing benefits - I always knew it - but now I am actually trying it). And then had 3 toasts with pate and tomato juice and a hot cup of creamy coffee - not a diet and still - I can't start starving myself yet. I am about to set off on a long excursion around the town, up the hills, - maybe 3-4 hour walk. It stopped raining and it is a sunny pleasant day here (+25 C - or around 75F) - very very nice.
Oh yeah, for additional motivation I did a shoulder stand this morning in nothing but my underwear - the sight of all that extra skin around my waste was appaling. Truly. And it's unnecessary. I would recommend to anyone do the shoulder stand before going out to dinner (not on full stomach though) - it works better than any "support group". All the loose skin hanging down in front of your face - yak!
