An 8-month pilot study was recently conducted with 28 patients suffering from ADVANCE CHRONIC LYME BORRELIOSIS. All the patients tested positive for LYME BORRELIOSIS utilizing the Western Blot blood test for Borrelia burgdorferi, the bacteria that causes LYME DISEASE. The control group was treated with antibiotics and at the end of the study, from 14 patients in the group, 3 improved slightly, 3 got worse and the rest remained with no change in their clinical condition. The experimental group was treated with SAMENTO (Pentacyclic Alkaloid Chemotype Uncaria tomentosa). At the end of the study 85% of the patients in this group tested negative for Lyme Disease and all the patients experienced a dramatic improvement in their clinical condition. Samento is one of several very important botanicals of the rainforest. By supporting and enhancing immune system function, Samento is indicated in a broad spectrum of conditions including all types of infections. Urarina tribesman of Peru tell stories of Samento curing tumors. Samento was one of the plants researched by the National Institute for Health as an anti-cancer agent. Studies from various laboratories indicate it normalizes the immunoglobulins by activating T-lymphocytes and macrophages.

Several reports on the constituents of Uncaria Tomentosa (the plant Samento is made from) have focused on the oxidole alkaloids, one of the many groups of phyto-nutrients found in the plant. Studies confirm that 2 chemotypes of Uncaria Tomentosa with different alkaloid patterns occur in nature.

One type contains pentacyclic oxindole alkaloids (POAs) and the other contains both POAs and tetracyclic oxindole alkaloids (TOAs). POAs act on the cellular immune system and TOAs act on the central nervous system. Recent studies confirm that the TOAs exert antagonistic effects on the action of the POAs. Uncaria tomentosa plants may contain as much as 80% TOAs.

According to studies in Austria, as little as 1% TOAs can cause a 30% reduction in the acquired immune benefits that POAs provide. This may explain why large dosages, at times far exceeding 10,000 mg per day, of Cat’s Claw containing TOAs are required to obtain some results in treating immune system related conditions.

Samento stimulates the immune system. Worldwide research on this powerful herb has led scientists to patent many of the single chemicals found in it for use in healing cancer, arthritis, AIDS and other diseases. As often is the case, using the whole plant can be far more powerful than any one isolated ingredient. Dr. Brent W. Davis referred to Samento as "the opener of the way" because of its remarkable ability to cleanse the entire intestinal tract.
