Overcame my anxiety about running today!
I ran for 15 minutes at 4.3 mph today, and am no longer "afraid" of running.

All the ellipticals were taken, and the gym was closing in 40 minutes, so I could either wait for an elliptical or go on a treadmill, which I did. Now when I'm on the treadmill I usually do very fast walking, alternating with short periods of actual running (2-3 minutes).
I can power walk for 2-3 hours at a time, I can do an intense workout on the elliptical for more than one hour (sometimes even two), but for some reason I cannot run for more than 5 minutes. I used to run a lot until about 8 years ago (when I was 13). I even remember winning a running competition when I was on a fencing team. But I always hated the "marathon type" running--during our PE classes we had to run 2-3 miles in a set amount of time. Those "endurance" tests probably turned me away from running.
But today, after the usual warm up on fast walking on the treadmill, I started running and did it for almost 15 minutes at a speed of 4.3 miles/hour! I probably could have done it for more time, but the gym was closing. The best part is that I felt so good afterwards--some parts of my leg muscles were activated that are probably never used when I do the elliptical, because my legs felt very pumped up. And I felt very good for the rest of the day.
So tomorrow I'll do it again! This time for a bit more time, to increase my running endurance, which in my case, for some strange reason, is much lower than my elliptical endurance (because they are supposed to be equally good at improving cardiovascular endurance).
