Post-Wedding Breakdown

the first part of my observations and reviews

I returned from my honeymoon in France Sunday night. I'm experiencing a measure of jetlag. It's actually 'jet wakefulness' since I'd be awake in France right now. I began to think about all the little things other bride-to-be's would appreciate knowing. Let me start with wedding dresses first and all the things that brides go through, are put through, are sold a bill of lies, etc.

Number one thing to keep in mind when shopping for the ideal wedding dress is whether you will be able to afford the alterations. I did not get a custom made dress. I bought mine at http://www.twc-commack.com My dress cost six hundred and the alterations were $350 My petticoat or 'crinolin' as they call it, cost almost $100. My crinolin is in great shape except for two dirty spots where I stepped on it because it was falling down :D Anyone wants to buy it, it's $50 shipping included. Anyway, my shoes were a good deal $60. The veil and tiara were a ridiculous amount but after seeing some of my guests pics, it seems to have been worth it. When you are a bride, you really do look like a princess.

One thing I just thought of...don't go overboard on a hotel room for your wedding night. I paid almost 300 for our room and it was a big disappointment. The bed was terrible, too soft, way too soft for any wedding night activities and way too soft for my husband and I to sleep on. Be aware of hotel chains advertising to brides. I think they just mark it up. The champagne was not all that and the chocolate truffles were in the shape of GOLF BALLS. WTF? Golf balls? Uniondale Marriot is good if you are a business person but it's not really for newlyweds. I would suggest a smaller more intimate place like a nice inn with a firm mattress then maybe you wouldn't end up having to conduct wedding night activities on a desk or on the couch. I think I really paid for the late check out and nothing else but that.

Okay I digress. Back to dresses. I had my hair and makeup done by one person, my beloved stylist Ana. It was natural makeup called Trucco by Sebastian. It is matte makeup and looks great for photographs. Do not get taken in by makeup artists who play into your fears of looking your best on your wedding day. Do not be afraid of getting a trial and paying for one. I paid $75 for one and I ended up hating what she did. I looked like a drag queen and more than that, I was worried my husband would not recognise me! Invest a little money in hair. My hair cost me $75 and my makeup cost me $75 also. Money well spent.

Another thing is that if you have a wedding that is a few months away, please do try to lose a little weight. You would feel better about yourself in your dress. While I waited in the alterations department, I would study the figure and appearance of girls in their dresses. The girls that were obese did not look good at all. That may sound mean and superficial but consider how plus size dresses are styled. Most dresses made for plus sized women are awful looking and do nothing to smooth out the issues with that figure type. I think it's just the same old issues with the fashion industry and size. Do research the dress carefully and pick out one that enhances the best features. I say this because I look better at 156 than at 186 and I could not imagine shopping for a dress at that size. The goal is to get married once and the pics are going to be taken once for all time. OTOH, the skinny girls did not look good either. One girl was insulting the seamstress for the appearance of her chest and arms in her dress. She was just too thin for the dress she picked out.

That's just some of things I came up with at this early hour. I'll have more later today.
