Some updates, afternoon day 5.
Later notes on Day 5 - a new suggestion about the most healing urine. Differences compared to other fasting?
Date: 2/24/2006 12:55:03 PM ( 18 y ) ... viewed 2098 times I really do feel fine. You know, if you tend to get hungry on water fasts or juice fasts or lemonade, try a urine fast. I'm a godforsaken eatie myself, and just not hungry, sort of naturally. Not not hungry, as when one has a fever or cold or nausea, just not particularly hungry. There isn't that urgency I've felt on other fasts - of course it's early.
By the way, Matthew, no-one, but no-one, has ever called or considered me a "brave soul" before - it's an exhilarating concept to think that might be me. Certainly helps to keep going.
Pros and cons of urine fasting per se - there's nothing disgusting about it. That's just silliness. I've not been drinking too much water, although I've been trying to drink enough, and even so, so far my urine has not become really concentrated and foul-tasting and dark. Maybe that's not good - maybe that's what one wants to see it doing. But it's basically just a bit lemony (I don't eat lemons much at all); I think there were one or two glasses this week that were sort of strong, but it's not generally so. I am of course vegan and take no pharmaceuticals - don't know if that is a factor. If you've been eating any kind of salt, even high-sodium greens or vegetables before your fast, the first couple of days' urine might be salty, but then it seems to turn to sour, slightly. As for the cons, I don't really mean cons, but you may be reading on certain site about how "potent" urine fasting is, as a physical and psychological healing methodology. Now that it may be, I'm only on day 5. But if you read that and think, either with hope or with fear, anxiety, or dread, that you are going to be in for a particularly "potent" experience in your first 5 days, I can say from my experience that just isn't so. It hasn't taken any bravery to weather these first few days in terms of symtoms - nothing about it has been scary or disturbing or uncomfortable physically. As I mentioned, it has yet to bring up overwhelming depths of psychological/emotional detox either. Don't, as I did, sort of interpret all this "potency" talk to mean that you will faint or fail in heart from the very first few days, or, for that matter, take heart from the drama of what seems to be happening. Please note however that different people do seem to have different fasting and detox experience - you will find some people claiming they get headaches if they miss a single meal.
As for the urine fasting/therapy websites, I also feel I should caution about the emphasis some of them place on the "power" of one's urine to address one's psychology and even sexuality (urine, get it? it's sort of near or like the genitals or something) - it sounds awesome when you read about it, a sort of reprogramming or deep somatic therapy, but if that appeals to you, please don't think that a urine fast of 5 days will show you any sign of it. For me, things are feeling pretty much as usual, not as if a miracle or blessing is working out - hoping this will change!!! But don't have expectations from your first few days, or I personally believe you will be disappointed. In time, I'll be able to report whether it's true after two months!
I forgot to mention that yesterday evening I had a very peculiar headache sort of thing (I never get headaches), but it lasted perhaps one minute. Perhaps it is a feature of urine fasts that symptoms are briefer - we will be seeing about that, whether it's true, as this goes on.
Today still no symptoms as such, except a sort of invisible pimple on my face, easier to feel than to see, and the slight ache in the right quadriceps I've felt a few other days.
Almost forgot - well, I read on a single site that actually the urine from 2-7 a.m. is very powerful in particular - what can ya do? There goes my sleep - I'll definitely drink it now, if any comes, even though only one site seems to mention that at all, which is suspicious! Most of them say not to worry about night-time urine and that it's the first on awakening that's the most powerful. I even feel very remiss that I wasn't doing that from Day 1.
