Certainty

In Life There is Suffering

Date:   6/25/2007 1:30:16 PM   ( 17 y ) ... viewed 2529 times

There are few of them in life. It is certain that we all will die, one day.
It is certain that during our lives, there will be a measure of suffering for us.
The burden of pain and suffering comes to all, sooner or later. The severity of that pain and suffering is proportional to how we bear it, with whom we share it, and how willing others are around us, to comfort us.

Many are incapable of facing the suffering of others.
It makes them uncomfortable and reminds them that they too are quite possibly bound for a similar experience.

But, if we can find the light within the deepest darkness, then it is also a certainty that we will find some measure of joy, as well, regardless of the certainties of pain and suffering, and, ironically, BECAUSE of the pain and suffering, we can find the Greatest of All Joys waits patiently within us all.

My Demon

Hepatitis C is fast becoming a world-wide epidemic. This is not publicised or spoken of openly in many circles, as it should be. There is a huge stigma attached to hep c that causes people to shut down in the face of discussing it. The medical establishment is largely responsible for this and also have a large responsibility for the existence of the current situation as well.

In the 50’s there was, here in Canada, a nation-wide effort to eradicate the onset of childhood polio through inoculations throughout the entire school system at the time. I remember this well, for I was one of the children inoculated. I remember that the administers of the polio vaccine would use the same needle for several children.

The needle would be soaked in alcohol, between uses. But, alcohol does not kill the hepatitis c virus, as we know now.
Blood transfusions are another way of passing and getting the virus. (This is how I acquired it.)

Tattoos can also be a road to infection, although, since the awareness of hep c has been growing, most tattoo artists take precautions of some kind. Some don’t.
Another danger is sharing snorting ‘straws’ between cocaine users, as well as sharing needles.

Even smoking a joint with somebody who carries the virus can pass it on. If their gums are bleeding at the time -and yours are, or you have an open cold sore at the time, you can get the virus.
Sharing a razor with someone is another way. The virus can live in a microscopic speck of blood on a razor blade up to four days! If you nick yourself, even slightly, with that blade, you have inoculated yourself with the virus.
Normal sexua| contact will not pass the virus. It depends on blood to blood transfer, only.

These are some of the facts that we need to be aware of in order to contain and eradicate this epidemic.
The world has more than its share of burdens.
Be aware, and live!

Love
