Eight Pieces of Brocade ~Set One~
-Both hands press heaven. From wu chi stance; Join fingertips with palms up, hands low in front of pelvis. Raise hands up to chest height with a relatively straight line between elbows. Turn palms forward and press them upwards at about a forty-five degree angle from the shoulders. Open the hands to the corners and lower them down to where they began. Inhaling as the hands come up and exhaling as they go down.

- Turn and look. From wu chi stance; turn torso to the left, look behind, return to the front. Turn torso to the right. Look behind, return to front. Inhale while turning, exhale while returning to the front.

- Bend and touch toes. Feet together, keeping knees slightly bent, weight comes forward slightly and bend forward and down to touch the toes (or shins), allow the head to hang. Come up slowly, uncurling the spine. Exhale down, inhale as you come up.

- Step and chop. Feet together, right hand comes up, palm down and forward to shoulder height. Right elbow bends and hand comes over to left side of chest as it forms into a soft fist. Sink weight onto left leg and step with the right foot to the right about double shoulder width. Slowly shift weight towards the right until the weight is carried equally between the legs as the right fist chops to the right corner and the left hand forms a soft fist and turns palm up by the left hip. Shift weight to the right leg as the hands drop and open, step in with the left to a feet together position. Reverse right and left and repeat. Inhaling as the hand comes up and you step, exhaling as you shift to the middle stance and chop.

- Press heaven, raise heels. Feet together, interlock fingertips, palms up with hands down, in front of pelvis. Raising the hands up as in exercise one, raise the heels about an inch when the hands are up. Open and lower the hands as the heels come down.

- Press heaven, press earth. From wu chi stance, cross the wrists about chest height with the right on the outside, palms facing body. Turn torso to the left as the left hand drops down behind the left buttock, palm down and fingers pointing to the left as the right hand is raised above the head, palm up, fingers pointing backwards. Return to the front as left hand circles up to outside and right turns palm in and comes down to cross wrists as in beginning but with left on the outside. Reverse right and left to repeat. Inhaling as you turn to side, exhaling while returning to the front.

- Wag tail. Feet together, perform as bend and touch toes but instead of hanging the head, turn to left and look behind, turn to right and look behind, return to center and come up. Exhale down, inhale up.

- Draw bow. Feet together, left hand comes up to face (palm in) right side of chest. Right hand comes up between left hand and chest to also face right side of chest. Sinking weight onto left leg, step to right as in step and chop, turn right palm out and as you shift weight to middle, push right palm to the right as you withdraw left hand into fist in front of chest as though drawing a bow. Step in with the left foot to a feet together position as you drop hands to beginning position. Reverse left and right and repeat. Inhaling as the hand comes up and you step, exhaling as you shift weight to the middle stance to draw bow.
