Hi Kermit,
When you hear the words, "martial arts", what do you think of? Do you think of violence and brutality? Aggression? War itself?
If so, you're out in left field. Let's have a look at how the inner dynamics of the martial arts are IDENTICAL to those of life itself...
Let's suppose we're looking at a martial artist who goes through several stages of development over time...
When our hero starts out, he gets his (or her!) butt kicked repeatedly. Hardly unexpected!
STAGE 1: BRUTE FORCE APPROACH
So he decides that the only way to get good at this is to train really hard so that he becomes stronger, faster and meaner than all his opponents.
And this works to a point... for a while. But guess what? No matter how strong, fast or mean our hero gets, there's always someone stronger, faster and meaner - a "bigger fish in the pond".
So after a few more times getting his butt kicked, our hero decides his approach has been too physical. So now he falls into trap #2...
STAGE 2: THE GIMMICK APPROACH
Our hero decides that a superior martial artist "outsmarts" his opponents. So he devotes all his time to strategy, tactics and trying to fake out his adversaries.
That works to a point. Until he realizes that...
His opponents got to Stage 2 first and are better at outsmarting him than he is at outsmarting them!
Now, if our hero has keen perception or a really good teacher (both rare commodities), he sooner or later comes to...
STAGE 3: THE AH HA!! MOMENT
This is the precise moment when our hero realizes and EXPERIENCES that the only real barrier to his performance is HIMSELF. The opponent is only the
foil, the mirror.
He realizes that his ego, with its fears, doubts and endless obsession with self-preservation is the only real "enemy".
In other words, his mindset has him imprisoned.
Our hero finally understands that to master the opponent, he first has to master himself. What follows is lots of work on himself and his own mind.
Eventually, he enters the mysterious world of no opponent, no self and no mind. And his skill level takes a quantum leap. Or, more accurately, he goes beyond skill itself to the realm of spontaneity.
From there, fear is banished and love emerges on its own. And he has no more desire to conquer the opponent, with whom he now feels inseparably one.
Now he approaches the state of "simple elegance". Where before he used to huff and puff and sweat to win a pretty brutal engagement, now he does so quickly, effortlessly and in a way that approaches pure artistry.
Our hero becomes like Morihei Ueshiba, who at age 80 was completely unbeatable. Or like 75-year old Ninja master Hatsumi, who can control several opponents, all larger than himself, without ever breaking a sweat.
ALL OF LIFE IS LIKE THIS:
All of human life goes through these same stages. The problem is that so many of us are so stuck at Stage 1 that we don't realize it.
We're so stuck at using brute force that we can't even imagine artistry.
When will YOUR Ah Ha! moment come? When will YOUR mindset be transformed? It could be sooner than you think...
What if two martial arts experts who have each spent a quarter of a century analyzing how this paradigm can transform the lives of anyone were available to teach you personally?
