Subject: Vote NO on budget to protect the Arctic

Dear Representative,

The future of the Arctic Refuge is in your hands. I urge you to vote against the budget reconciliation package if it allows oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge's unique geography and ecology combine to make this refuge one of the most complete, pristine, and undisturbed ecosystems on earth. Recent studies show that if oil development proceeds, much of the wildlife, water, and cultural resources for which the Arctic Refuge was established would be severely diminished or lost.

In addition, the potential oil reserves of the refuge are distributed throughout the coastal plain, requiring development to spread across most of the coastal plain, which would compound the impacts of oil development. Estimates say it will take 10 years of exploration and development before any oil reaches the market and at most we will only get a few months worth of supply. This tradeoff is not worth damaging a precious ecosystem.

Save this national treasure and vote NO on the budget reconciliation bill.
