ENTHUSIASM: THE FIRST STEP TOWARD IMPROVED HEALTH

 

Emotions are both the constructive and destructive forces in any body. Therefore to improve your health, the emotions that are constructive should be sought. And above all others, enthusiasm is the way-shower, the first emotion to be felt. It can be trusted and should be maintained. For through enthusiasm there is a desire to take action and accomplish things.

     Enthusiasm points towards those things that you truly wish to do. Therefore, when there is a decision, enthusiasm usually points in the correct direction. Knowing this, then becoming enthusiastic about something is the process by which you improve your health, life, attitude and the entire environment in which you reside. Life really is a series of decisions. One decides when to move the body, when to eat, when to breathe, where to go, how to travel or remain idle. It truly is a simple process of making decisions. Therefore making decisions with enthusiasm does provoke a state of optimism, an expectation of pleasantness, prosperity or gain, or at least some pleasant experience (temporary or long-term). However in the physical temporal world, everything is temporary. Life is filled with cycles: up, down; left, right. Attempting to keep your self, therefore, in the proper direction comes to simple decisions. The willingness to make them progresses you; the unwillingness to make them causes you to become stationary or even stagnant.

     This leads to improvement in health: by first deciding that indeed your life will be better, filled with hope, and you will do those things that make you feel pleasant each and every day. Enthusiasm is the sign-post or way-shower to make positive and correct decisions. Of course, you must be prudent, you must see if it is the right time or not to take the proper steps, and you must take the proper steps in the proper order. Always view decisions in life as if you would be taking a trip. First there is the knowledge that a trip is going to occur. There is the planning of the trip. There is the preparation to take the trip. Then there is the actual action to take the trip itself. Then all the adjustments to be taken along the way of the trip are made. Then there is the arrival at the destination. Of course when you arrive at the destination - the purpose of the trip, what it is you are going to do when you get there – your expectations should be fulfilled. Usually good planning, preparation, and the enthusiasm to make the trip ultimately bring you to a successful conclusion. All decisions in life should be made as if you were taking a trip. Be prepared, have expectations why it is you are taking the trip, and what it is you are going to do when you arrive at your clearly-defined destination. Then do everything in your power to get there. Do not allow other distractions to take you away from your plan.

     And in preparing the mind, and bringing about the emotional aspects that are positive and enthusiastic, there can be given to a body those things that are organic in nature (as to body-building nutrients) which would be helpful: when the body is fatigued, take goat weed; when the body is worried or anxious, take slippery elm as a tea or supplement. Then add a little protein to help build up the physical body (and it will affect the brain itself as well). To add more vitamins to the body, the best way is with vegetable juices: once or twice a week take 2 ounces of carrot with 2 ounces of cabbage juice, blended or added together and warmed to make it palatable. Other vegetable juices and fruit juices can also be taken, individually or blended. These would act as energy-building forces in the body. Then engage in exercises that are Eastern in nature (i.e. yoga), for any who engage in this form of exercise first challenge the mind, and as the mind is brought around in control, the body naturally follows. You should do them daily, and you should do them all. With the increased breathing activity of the yoga, and the increased activities of the juices, there should be a positive effect in the brain itself, which will help you overcome any fears or other destructive emotions. But first do something. Remember that a successful person always does the thing a failure is afraid to do. Make your first step toward your goal. Let enthusiasm show the way.

Meditation Advice from Douglas
Q. Whenever I try to meditate, I end up falling asleep. What am I doing wrong?

A. This question is more common than you might think. Falling asleep is perfectly natural you should not feel concerned if this happens. Indeed Meditation is a state of mind usually associated with RELAXATION. The first act is to make the body comfortable to allow the process to begin (no matter what position you choose your body to assume for meditation). Setting is as important as your breathing technique: low light, a private place where you won't be disturbed, soft music, sweet scented candles or incense - it's all a personal choice. But whatever works for you, be consistent. Same place, same time, and take the same steps.

     Remember you are consciously using (or getting in touch with) a different state of mind.

If your waking state of mind can be considered at the surface then your total mind can be considered an ocean of thought, and you might begin to see that there are great depths of mind below the "surface" of your personally or ego mind. Here in these depths of mind you naturally approach the intuitive abilities. The downward journey begins by setting aside the emotional distractions or disquieting thoughts of the day that in a moment can thrust you up to the surface.

     This is why you need a quiet place to meditate and to go through the ceremony preparing to meditate. If you would consider "day dreaming" an open eye meditation technique (which it is) you would see that you really don't need to go through the preparations to meditate if you were able to set aside the moment and "jump in" to a deeper level of that great mind - which with practice (and in time) you will be able to do.

     But getting down to a level of complete separation from daily worries is the first MAJOR step in approaching the deeper levels of meditation. The body somewhat floats along feeling "detached" (or in a conscious, peaceful state) while the mind is free to leap into the great dimensions beyond. Nightly, during sleep, it does this automatically.You might liken this state of mind to "not caring" or being "dis-interested" or a feeling of just plain nothingness, like a floating or weightlessness in calm water. The aim is to consciously relax into a state, where you are "between" sleep and awake. Here your mind in Meditation is in an active state far beyond the conscious level and in contact with the supersubconcious mind: the akashic records and the intuitive forces that make up you.

     Falling asleep means you were there.

     Next time, as you approach the threshold and feel like sleep is upon you, look for a ring of colour and try to go through this ring. It will keep you awake and you will be amazed.
