This is the breathtaking view
I saw May 6 about one hour before sunset
on the South side of the Kitchen Garden
at Rancho Tres Estrelles, Tecate, Mexico.
I saw a book at the Gardening with Class
Conference a few Saturday's ago. The title
identified a condition called "Nature Deficit
Disorder."
Here I was experiencing Nature in full form.
The influence on my consciousness was
transforming.
Oh to be in such an environment!
Paris and I were pretty much alone on the property
through the end of Lag' B'Omer, the 33rd day
when in the Kabbalistic Essene Tradition
we are invited to visit and partake of Nature.
Guests at nearby Rancho La Puerta
take an early morning hike to the farm
and have breakfast here four times a week.
On Wednesday's they are invited to help
head Gardener Salvadore with field duties
according to what they would like.
Some times this includes harvesting.
Salvadore, who has a place in my heart,
tells me that sometimes the guests want
to know about composting, or building a bed,
or have other garden questions. He leaves it to them
to decide what garden/farm activity
they would like to do.
This morning garden hike has become
one of the most popular activities among the
guests of Rancho La Puerta.
Salvadore was one of the farm helpers who
worked with Sarah Livia Brightwood, daughter
of Deborah and Edmond Bordeaux Szekely; and Jonathan
and Tamara Frey to develop the Kitchen Garden
a little before I first arrived in 1992.
Salvadore did not speak English then.
Now he does! What a treat
to talk back and forth!
He has many aspirations, this sweet man
who tends the field and oversees the other
seven who garden. He likes to teach.
He, as many who work on these Ranches
are extremely grateful and loyal.
Salvatore wants to share his gratitude
by one day traveling to other places.
His heart is filled with Seed Dreams.
He was single then. Now he has a lovely
wife, Rosa, and a sweet daughter, Danielle.
They live in the house where I would stay
with Tamara and Jonathan Frey, for
days at a time. I was writing a little
book then and taking photos, mostly
on film.
