Whole Foods Market,
the largest Whole Foods Corporately run
natural food Company,
cracked the Cosmic Egg on what a
Corporation is Suppose to be all about!!!!
I love Whole Foods Market,
make no mistake about it.
Former Hippy, Michael Besancon,
is my favorite Avocado maker.
He is also the President of Southern Pacific Region
of Whole Foods. That covers San Diego, LA,
parts of Arizona, and maybe New Mexico.
A couple years ago, I reconnected with Michael.
We hadn't talked in years.
He was a panelist at a conference in SD.
I called him up on the phone. He
of Cource recognized me. I went down
there with avocado fixings. I asked
him to make me a sandwich just like in
the older days when he was a hippy
co-owner of Follow Your Heart in the SFV.
Michael preferred to eat with me on a park
bench at the ritzy Marriot than hang with
the Newport Summit CEO's.
You can see those photos here:

That is one heck of a lot of corporate miles
to govern, and yet when I send Michael an email,
I get a reply!!!!!!!
Tomorrow, Joe the Farmer and I take one more step
to breaking down the Concept and Bad Mouth energy
about what is Bad about Big Corps.
We are one of the farmers featured at the local vendor day.
Tomorrow morning at about dawn, there will be strawberries
growing in Escondido. About four hours later they will be
at the Whole Foods Market Hillcrest, about 50 miles away.
Shoppers will be able to buy they at just about the same
price as they can buy the plastic berries picked a few days ago.
So the shoppers have choice here.
What would you choice the Choice is yours:
Fresh picked that day Joe the Farmer berries,
or organic lovely berries picked a few days ago from
our friends at BeeWise,
or maybe even some conventional grown strawberries
that may not even be organic.
You are the customer.
Whole Foods basically is giving you choice,
and they are highly supportive of local foods
and a good philosophy that wants to support and treat
farmers here and in developing countries with respect.
Name me a corp that has a Green Mission
that includes taking all the food and cartons
that go to waste and turning them into garden compost???
Whole Foods Market is setting a standard
for other Corporations to follow.
Granted I see a lot of places where our Whole foods Market
Hillcrest can improve...there is a lot of waste, but
I do not put it past Michael and all these independent
stores to be open to hearing how we can improve and do things
better!
I wrote a blog the other day about having a sliding scale
on the retail price of food.
Wouldn't that be something?????
Can you imagine????

So I thought I would kick off the idea by asking Marci,
head of Whole Foods Regional Marketing,
for $100.00 worth of Gift Cards to go for prizes at the
Sign a Love Letter to Joe the Farmer/Plant Your Dream exhibit
at Earth Day next Sunday, April 22.
We are located in the Pan American Plaza
You can read my blog here that explains how
folks can get one of these Gift Cards worth $5.00
and other fabulous gifts when they contribute
to help Joe the Farmer buy back his 100 acre farm.
Below is the email I sent to Marci and her response
this eve:
Yes!

forEarth Day Confirm please
Dear Marci,
Please confirm $100.00 in Whole Food gift cards that I can use as
giveawayas part of our Rodriguez Ranch Buy Back Launching
at The San Diego Earth
Fair.
FYI my out of pocket expense to do the booth is about $350.00,
and one of the main goals of the booth is to feature local farmers who
arehaving their products at Whole Foods Hillcrest as well as introduce
Whole Foods Hillcrestto some of my other local Farmers' Market vendors who I would like to hook intoWhole Foods Hillcrest.
Much thanks for the ad support.
Our booth will have Whole Foods branding and features Joe the Farmer,
one of your local farmers. I will hook up other local farmers and their
produce/products
tomorrow at the local vendor day.
Let me know about the gift cards.
Can I get them from Ray?
Thanks,
Leslie
