With Joe the Farmer
I was with him for Thanksgiving,
I was with him and his family of fourth generation farmers.
He caughs. He caughs from weak lungs,
weak lungs exposed to pesticides when he was a kid.
I believe in this man.
I believe in him because there are a lot of other
kids caughing in the San Juaquin Valley,
and mothers who are concerned that their kids
are being sprayed. When they look out
the window where the mountains are,
they cannot see the mountains through the haze.
It does not matter to me what makes that haze.
It matters more than I believe in Joe the Farmer
and that through his organic success there can
be less caughing.

____
Joe the Farmer and his produce is available
at Whole Foods Market Hillcrest and La Jolla,
the Hillcrest Farmers' Market, Sundays 9am-1pm,
and in various other Farmers' Markets in San Diego
and Los Angeles. He is a local San Diego farmer.
The land in this photo, long owned by his family,
is no longer owned by his family. I believe
that working together, he will get that land back.
