What happened to me overseas? I was called a fool?
Well I learned how to function better! Having studied French in H.S. = It allowed me to know more and understand how to use translation!
Date: 7/23/2022 2:12:34 AM ( 28 mon ) ... viewed 749 times Being French literate since high school, I have enjoyed the application and use of it! While in the US Navy when we were over seas; I was a translator.
So once when our Destroyer docked in Tunis, in North Africa; I was posted at the main Police Station to answer calls in French! One of the first things was to make contact with the ship moored @ la Goletta
I had to use the then Operator controlled Phone system! I knew how to ask for the US Navy ship at La Goletta - but then the operator kept asking the same question! But since I did not understand the term: " Hang up " in French.
So the exasperated operator was getting loud - Repeating
" raccrocher " which is
hang up, ring off, hitch together, put the receiver down - Most likely including the term " Fool "...
Which was most likely calling me some sort of nerd! So I hung up! Then low and behold as soon as I hung up the Desk Telephone - it rang back, and I answered to hear " Quarter Deck USS Manley " To whom do you wish to speak? " I knew it was a successful fon connection! "
I have since asked some other French speakers how to tell me how to interpret the term, and most did not know " Hang Up " in French either!
So I feel better now!

En tant que l'alphabétisation française depuis le lycée, j'ai apprécié l'application et l'utiliser! Alors que dans l'US Navy, lorsque nous étions au-dessus des mers; J'étais traducteur. Une fois, lorsque notre destroyer a accosté à Tunius, j'ai été posté au poste de police principal pour répondre aux appels en français! L'une des premières choses a été de prendre contact avec le navire amarré @ la goletta - j'ai dû utiliser le système Fon Operater alors! Je savais comment demander le navire de la marine américaine à La Goletta - mais l'opérateur a continué à poser la même question!

raccrocher, sonner, faire de l'attelage ensemble, poser le récepteur - incluant très probablement le terme 'idiot' ...
qui m'appelait très probablement une sorte de nerd! Alors j'ai raccroché! Puis bas et voici dès que j'ai raccroché le téléphone du bureau - il a sonné, et j'ai répondu à entendre «Quarter Deck USS Manley» à qui voulez-vous parler? «Je savais que c'était une connexion FON réussie! '
J'ai la séance a demandé à d'autres français comment me dire comment interpréter le terme,
