Precautions during the first trimester of pregnancy

There are a few precautions you need to be familiar with, during your 1st trimester. This is the most challenging period of pregnancy. You'll gain weight, feel exhausted or depressed and morning sickness. You'd give your body a healthy diet and plenty of time to rest. You should limit coffee to 2 – 3 times per day. Ask your trainer to change your exercise schedule during pregnancy. Try to avoid exercises that put pressure on your womb. Precautions in the first trimester of pregnancy are discussed below.

Take a well-balanced diet:

Take a well-balanced diet such as fresh fruits, green vegetables, plenty of protein, vitamins, fiber, and carbohydrates. Drink plenty of water to keep your body hydrated. Concern your doctor if any complications and take folic acid supplements. You may experience mood swings at this time, so you let your life partner be aware of this issue. It's important to share your feelings or sentiments, physical condition and mental condition with your life partner. This is the most critical trimester during pregnancy, so you need to be more cautious about your health. Make sure your diet includes the following:

  • Fresh leafy vegetables and fresh fruit:
  • Healthy snacks:
  • Sweet Potatoes:
  • Fish and seafood: These are full of essential oils and minerals but be cautious to use with the consultation of your doctor.
  • Fresh Meat:
  • Egg, milk, and Greek yogurt:
  • Legumes: Such as lentils, peas, and beans.
  • Use of folic acid supplements

Foods to avoid in the 1st trimester:

The greatest concern with food when in the first trimester of pregnancy, is the food poisoning bacteria called Listeria infection. It is a foodborne bacterial disease that can be very severe for pregnant women. These foods are containing a high risk of miscarriage. However, you should stay away from the following foods during the first trimester of your pregnancy.

1. Deli Meats

2. Soft cheese

3. Unpasteurized dairy

4. Raw meat like sushi

5. Expired food

6. Uncooked or undercooked meat

7. A lot of fish and seafood

8. Avoid Alcohol and drugs

You should avoid alcohol and drug. If you'll drink, then your baby will also be addicted to alcohol. It's harmful to your unborn baby's brain and you may suffer a miscarriage in the 1st trimester of pregnancy. During the first 12 weeks, alcohol is linked with a higher risk of miscarriage.

Never Smoke

Smoking while pregnant limits oxygen to your unborn baby and passes on toxic chemicals. If you need help to get rid of smoking speak to your doctor or call the Quitline. In fact, second-hand smoking can result in critical health issues for your baby and may even your child get an unexpected infant death syndrome. It's never too late to quit smoking and if any concern, talk to your midwife or doctor.

When Cramps Last?

All pregnant women will suffer from implantation cramps and bleeding. Some luckiest women may not have any cramps during early pregnancy. Stomach cramps are a relatively common experience during the first trimester of pregnancy. It happens due to the hormone changes in your body during your baby development process. Excessing use of caffeine could result in anxiety, irritability, sleeping trouble, irregular heartbeats and increase the risk of your miscarriage. 

Stay hydrated

Be careful to hydrate your body by consuming at least 8- 12 glasses of water every day. Drink plenty of water during the 1st trimester of pregnancy. Your blood circulation increases during your pregnancy to assist your fetal development into the baby and fortified the process moves forward smoothly.

Medication and vaccinations

Some medicines and natural supplements can be dangerous for fetal development or organs and cause miscarriage. Always consult with your doctor about pregnancy medications. Read the precautions carefully written on your medicines. It's important to discuss getting all vaccines up to date during your pregnancy trimesters.
