** So when you say why or how did this happen - you should start by looking back at your input in life! **

Many people the more they pursue the pleasures of life the further they get from the Whole Truth!
Why?
Because they only listen or pay attention to things which are only popular fluff or taking the road of self-centeredness.
( i.e. the feel-good route in life!)
Earthly life is an experience to be lived, using our God Given Intelligence and the Guidance of God's Commandments and Laws.
Yet all we do is based upon the choices we make.
We either learn how to live within the realm of existence of our choosing or fall into the clutches of devious or sinister persons and/or spirits!
So when you say why or how did this happen - you should start by looking back at your input in life! Most of the time you will find whatever happened is a result of either a choice you made or else you were sucked into some other realm of destructive control!
This is the sad state of affairs which many may have driven themselves - to become lost from the enlightened Heavenly gifts of Almighty God!
Hebrews 6:4-6 (NKJV)
4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit,
5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come,
6 [a] if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.
