The Resurrection
I.
The Resurrection‐ the most pivotal event in the history of the world. If Jesus had failed to fulfill his promise to come back from the dead than everything else would be nothing.
a.
1 Cor 15: 14‐ “And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.”
II.
Jesus’ own disciples didn’t even recognize him during post‐resurrection appearances. They were used to knowing him in the flesh.
a.
Luke 24:1‐16
b.
Mark 16:12‐ “After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked,
and went into the country.”
c.
John 20:20‐ Jesus still had the scars from the crucifixion.
d.
1 Corinthians 2:11‐13
i.
Paul communicated from his heart and touched people on a heart level. If information doesn’t come from your heart, it is a sounding brass
(1 Corinthians 13:1).
ii.
There is a difference between revelation knowledge and just knowledge
e.
2 Corinthians 5:15‐16‐ Jesus was in a glorified, spiritual body.
f.
John 12:28‐29.
John 21:9‐12‐ They knew who Jesus was by the Spirit. It is better for you to know Jesus
by the Spirit.
h.
Hebrews 11:6
i.
Jesus is going to be the only person in Heaven who will not be put back to a pristine
condition. He will live forever with scars identified with us.
j.
Matthew 28:16‐17‐ Some of His 11 disciples doubted that Jesus resurrected from the
dead and they were looking at him.
III.
The Lord wants us to know Him by the Spirit‐ John 21:12
IV.
Q&A
a.
Jesus’ body was changed from a
physical body to a spiritual body
b.
Will our bodies look different in Heaven? Revelation 6:9. They will be recognizable
without deformities, scars, and be in the prime of your life.
c.
1 Peter 3:19‐ Which souls are these?
Souls in paradise or utter most darkness?
i.
Luke 16 Rich Man and Lazarus Parable
ii.
Ephesians 4:8‐
“Therefore it says, ‘WHEN
HE ASCENDED ON HIGH, HE LED CAPTIVITY CAPTIVE, AND HE BESTOWED GIFTS ON MEN.’”
d.
Is cremation scriptural? Nothing is too hard for God. Our body will be reconstituted, and
our soul and spirit will rejoin in our glorified body in the new Jerusalem.
