DR DAPHNE MILLER MD's MUSHROOM GINGER SOUP
Nadine makes some, adding some of her own touches...from JR Organic Fresh Foods, February 5, 2013.
Dr. Weil gave props to Dr. Daphne Miller. I did research. She recommended Mushroom Ginger Soup for colds in one story that points out the essence of what where I would like to see Integrative Medicine go....The Soul of Integrative Medicine is in the Seed and the Kitchen. To more come on this theme....
HERE IS DAPHNE MILLER's RECIPE
AND THE STORY THAT INSPIRED ME

"Just a cold? I thought I was dying." Martha sounded irritated.
She had hustled the kids off to day care and skipped work, clearly expecting to hear that something more dramatic was brewing than a late springtime cold. But what motivated her visit to my office, I realized, was not the infection itself as much as the dizzying array of symptoms caused by her self-administered treatments: The fatigue and stomach pain appeared to intensify with each dose of opioid-derived cough suppressant she chugged; as for her headache, dry mouth and racing heart, they coincided suspiciously with a decongestant that contained pseudoephedrine (a close cousin to methamphetamine).
Bolstered by a growing body of data and my own clinical experience, I opened my electronic medical record and entered a prescription that would give Martha relief without more side effects: mushroom ginger soup. The recipe sits right there on my screen, one click below morphine and one above mycostatin.....

THE TRIUMPH OF MY FEB 1
Garden Management Journal
The triumph of my Feb 1, 2013 was that at 6:20 pm--lying on my back---I made a decision--after a good nap to put on my out of season "Your Enchanted Gardener" white freshly ironed shirt and--taking a risk--see if there was still a seat left in the ballroom--at the ever popular Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine Annual Conference at the Hilton San Diego Resort. There were close to 3000 or more who came to celebrate the Keynote with Dr. Andrew Weil MD. This man, the father of the word "Integrative Medicine" as far as I know holds a special place in my life.
I have been in his presence a number of times, including at the Organic Center VIP dinner at the Natural Product Expo. He is an ally and strong supporter of the Organic Movement, and so am I.
For the last six weeks, my immune system has been in a wrestler match with a National Growth Opportunity that I see as an epidemic of influenza and colds due to our planet and our people here have reached a the Toxic Load of what our health system can endure. We are burning out the waste, and being asked to learn things that most of us do not yet know about natural healing.
The most impressive fact of the night for me was that something Dr. Weil is doing is working for him. He said that in the last six months he hasn't had a cold. His Natural Supplement intake, that he addressed, and his Lifestyle, that includes growing some of his own food, taking time to prepare meals often in his own kitchen, and honoring True Food--are working.
I concur with these last three lifestyle choices--growing some of our own food, and eating True Food, are basics of good health. As far as what Natural Supplements I use--I have my favorites, a few especially that I would like to see Dr. Weil add to his own regimen. He looked me when he spoke about his choices, especially, the mushroom remedies.
I also welcoming doing a trial of his MegaFood Multivitamin mineral. I was drawn to that at last year's Natural Product Expo West, and delighted at the event last night to reconnect with Helather Moser, who is part of the Food State Megafood Team that also offers a line called Innate, especially for doctors.
I found it fascinating to journey with Dr. Weil into some of his experiences, including the fact that in Japan and Europe, that the use of Natural Supplements are basically foreign. with the craze also on to make it to make Glulen Free the latest Fashionable Trend, I enjoyed hearing that in Dr. Weil's personal research in Japan, they served Gluten in many forms and were not aware that they had any sensitivities to this special part of wheat that is now on the no-no list for many people.
ABOUT THE COMMON COLD
I would have like Dr. Weil to address more about colds and the flu, a timely subject for now, especially when 3000 or more people are in the same room. One of the facts, that Integrative Medicine is yet to teach is that a cold can be a good thing. It is Nature's way to naturally eliminate Toxins.
Dr. Weil was asked a question about elimination diets. I believe I heard him say that the best way to avoid the need for them was to not take in toxins in the first place. That, living in 2013. How to do that in 2013--would be a whole three day conference.
I also thought it that the subject of the influence of GMO's on health did not come up. I had the opportunity to ask him during the Q & A. He expressed some emotion--He could not believe how California missed the opportunity to Label GMO's. He was clearly in favor of that.
MORE ON THAT....
GOT TO RUN BACK TO THE CONFERENCE FOR ITS CLOSING....

THESE THINGS STUCK WITH ME FROM DR. ANDREW WEIL'S TALK FEB 1 AT HIS SCRIPPS INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE CONFERENCE KEYNOTE
Lettuce--separate into leaves. Wash in cold water for then minutes. Break into small pieces and store in refrigerator for two days. It continues to produce chemicals that are good for the body, increasing its healthfulness.
Skip the Fruit Juices--Fruit juices are not healthy. The body does not know what to do with the sugar. One doctor said a class of fresh orange juice was as bad as a Coca-Cola. I would like to hear this more precisely.
Whole Grains are not pulverized--there is a world of difference between a whole grain and flour as far as health value.
He is the father of Integrative Medicine.
I tapes parts of his talk. Would like to listen to them.

THESE ARE SOME OF THE BANNER HEADLINES THAT JUMPED OUT TO ME THAT I WOULD LIKE TO PASS ON TO OTHERS
INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE IS ABOUT LIFESTYLE<>H2>
Dr. Weil clearly knows this. Amen. He spoke this message from the stage.
One of the first to point out the Body Mind Connection was Tilden M.D.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE THINGS I WOULD LIKE TO DO AT THE ELEVENTH ANNUAL CONFERENCE NEXT YEAR>
BIG QUESTION FOR ME?
WHY HAVE I GOTTEN "SICK" THIS YEAR?
My spirit was hurt before I let outside influences--mind influenza--get into me. Yesterday, at uniion Bank, I had a moment with Patricia, the Bank Manager. Many people were coughing. I saw Patricia and had a moment with her from a distance. I told her I was in recovery. She said she hadn't had a flu or cold. I asked if she had taken a Flu Shot. She said no. I asked, "What have you attributed your health too?" She took her two hands and made a Cross with her fingers, as if to say she was keeping a "Vampire" distant distant the sign of the cross,
WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING I COULD DO TODAY TO GET MY STRENGTH BACK
Go back down there, Do not feel poor. Buy a copy of "The Wheatbelly Book," or trade with the Book Seller who came all the way from Colororado.
Take down a copy of my book, "The Ultimate Gardener" and take some photos with it.
Meet a couple of the people from Bastyr.
Do a Ritual. Have Mimi plant a seed for the future of Integrative Medicine.
WHAT IS SO SPECIAL ABOUT THE HILTON RESORT FOR ME?
This is the place where I orchestrated three organic lunches as far of the Internatioanal Feng Shui Conference 2005, The head chef, Herman Scheffer is still on board here, I found out Feb 1.
WHAT ARE THE NATURAL SUPPLEMENTS DR. WEIL USES?
CONNECTIONS AND FOLLOW UP<
Heather M Moser, Planning and innovation Manager, for Food State, Mastering the art o Whole food supplements since 1973.
It was good to be remembered! I was taking a stroll of the Hilton. I went to visit the restaurant. I ran into Heather. She was going in for a bite to eat. I reached out and she stopped to talk. "Do you work for Scripps?" I asked. "No, she told me. "I work for Food State." They are the makers of Mega Food. and Innate, two lines of natural supplements touted by Dr. Andrew Weil.
I told her I would like to try the Mega Multi Vitamin and Mineral that Dr. Weil uses. She is going to send me some.

HISTORIC NOTE
On my way back to the bookstrore, I ran into Dr. Mimi Guarneri, the founder of the Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine.
I have not seen her for a number of years. She remembered me well, calling me her Enchanted Gardener.
I showed her the area where I had created an Enchanted Garden Installation in 2005 on this site for the International Feng Shui Conference.
