I live in the high desert and there are very few birds here as there is not much water around. So I was quite surprised to be driving by the small park the other day and saw this really BIG flock of white geese.
I was wondering what they were doing HERE in the high desert!
I did some research and found that there was a very old fly way through here as at one time (don't know how far back it was). There used to be a lake here and the geese would fly through stopping for water on their long flight. The stopover was always between Thanksgiving and Christmas, usually early December. So this flock was right on time!
Problem is, now there is no lake and the only water around for them is the sprinkler system in the small park that keeps the grass green. So sorry geese!
