G-Drive Model USB Belly Up....again

This is the second G-Drive Model USB that has dies on me this year. The first was connected to a hub. O.K, I understand that excuse. Not enough power.
This time, it was connected to my iMac. No sign before hand.
It was a very strange day of internet things happening from out of nowhere.
The only thing that i can trace this too was a couple of other little storage units attached at the same time.
One was in a PC at a local store where I know that had had a virus, but this is suppose to be a Mac. Mac are not suppose to get viruses.
I have no clue why this when belly up.
I did have one file backup up, but now sure about my financial program.
Serious messages here about have preemptive back up plans in place on a regular and consistent basis.
I am having ongoing issues with computer related stresses.
This is only the latest.
