Resistance to ACTA springs largely from copyright provisions which legal experts and Internet freedom advocates fear would lead to censorship and breaches of privacy rights. A similar treaty, the TPP Agreement, is currently being negotiated in secret by nine Asia-Pacific countries: Brunei, Chile, New Zealand, Singapore, Australia, Malaysia, Peru, the U.S., and Vietnam.
What is Your Food Future?
Do you choose Food Freedom or TTPA, that one Sustainability educator calls, "NAFTA on Steroids."

TTP stands for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).
Also called:
The animated commentary and debate last week over the leaked investment chapter from the
Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA)
negotiations shows how relevant and important it is - and why the nine parties are so desperate to keep it
secret.
The leak confirms what we feared - that all countries except Australia have endorsed the power of foreign investors to sue our governments directly in secretive offshore investment tribunals for breaching these far-reaching guarantees and protections. We should applaud and join Australia. Instead Prime Minister Key said all parties should adopt the same rules - by implication the other eight should gang up on Australia and force it to back down.
If the US gets its way, it may not even be necessary for investors to allege the government has breached the TPPA rules. They could use the ad hoc offshore tribunals, which do not operate under the same legal disciplines as domestic courts, to enforce contracts with the government on mining, electricity supply and other natural resources.--Jana Kelsey, from an article here

Went to a meeting tonight. Heard about this for the first time.
We will do a program July 6, 2012 in San Diego.
Friday night.
Some said TTPA was like "NAFTA on Steroids."
Nic Paget-Clarke, author of a very well done book, "Democracy as Creation...and the Echo Follows...an essay with photographs by nic Paget Clarke, brought the TTP to our attention and attended the planning meeting.
Nic is the inspiration behind the internet magazine called "In Motion."
Apparently Corporations from around the world are entering into treaties with nations that can effect--among many things-- the future of food.
That was why a person deeply involved in educating about TTPA came to our
Cultivating Food Justice Meet.
The reference to NAFTA was explained at the planning meeting. NAFTA has hurt many people, by undercutting the local economy of workers, it was said.
One person gave an example of local people in Mexico growing corn, and then because of this trade agreement called NAFTA the people in the US would would go down to Mexico and sell corn at a price that undercut the local economy. This drove the local farmers out of business.
TTPA has something to do with proposed Trade Agreements between large multinational Corporations and nations.
It appears that the normal legislative process would be circumvented.
There are going to be protests when those negotiating come to San Diego.
PROTESTS ON TTPA IN SAN DIEGO?
TTP DISCUSSED HERE ON FORBES
Apparently this has something to do with Internet freedom.

SOPA, ACTA and the TPP: Lessons for a 21st Century Trade Agenda
The ham-handed attempts by the U.S. entertainment industry to rein in online piracy, the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protect IP Act (PIPA), triggered an earthquake of public backlash that led to one of the quickest legislative collapses in modern history. In one day, fueled by Internet blackouts and user protests, the once “slam dunk” legislative effort to censor the Internet and make websites liable for “infringing” user content quickly became politically untouchable.
You don’t have to understand the intricacies of the Internet to realize it is sounder economic policy to make sure Internet freedom is not jeopardized by some quixotic crusade to eliminate all copyright infringement from the web. Going forward, all parties need a seat and a voice at the table in negotiating a modern intellectual property regime, and the TPP is a great place to start.--Ed Black, Forbes Online
In light of the extensive protests of the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) which took place Saturday, June 9 all across Europe, Australia, and the U.S., concerns about similarities between ACTA and the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) have been surfacing.
ACTA was signed by the U.S., Australia, Japan, Canada, Morocco, New Zealand, Singapore and South Korea in October 2011, quickly followed by the European Union (EU) and 22 of its member states in January 2012.
BIO ( BIOTECHNOLOGY INDUSTRY ORGANIZATION) AND BIG PHARMA ARE INVOLVED
Working through lobbying groups like the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), these corporations work to secure draconian IP rules by influencing trade agreements such as the TPP.
Other lobbying groups influencing the negotiations are PhRMA and BIO, representing the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries respectively. The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) is the governmental body responsible for representing the U.S.’s interests in trade discussions. But USTR has been acting as a mouthpiece for these industries throughout the course of the TPP negotiations, advancing the interests of the 1% and ignoring the pleas of the 99%.
I wanted to offer some positive suggestions to the gathering that was being discussed for July 6 in City Heights.
I was thinking that likely the corporation heads who were coming to discuss these proposed treaties had never been exposed to what I sense will be our future: Local economies that are based on more and more people growing their own food, rather than allowing their lives to be in the hands of others.
The aim behind the TTPA Proposed Treaties appears to be profits, and ensuring that large corporations get a guarantee that they will make enough profits in countries. The treaties, according to the information given at our planning meeting, are being done in secret, but apparently more and more people are finding out about this proposed treaties.
Gathering at the Hilton
The information given was that the TTPA gathering was going to be at a downtown San Diego HIlton Hotel.
I have had a great relationship with the HIlton in the past.
I thought perhaps that local organic food might be given to the HIlton so those attending the negotiations might have some healthy food to eat.
Perhaps there could be a handout of Local Organic Restaurants to support where the HIlton Guests of TTPA might enjoy a healthy Meal.
Local Press Coverage
I thought perhaps the local press might want to cover such an event.
Profits vs. Giving People What They Need to Become "Prophets"
The theme of Profit Motives dominating-- Trumping-- Health and the best interests of what would be good for our children has been a theme in my thoughts the last few days.
The Inspiration of Dr. Harvey M Wiley and Alfred W. McCann
I have been studying the work of Alfred McCann and Dr. Harvey M Wiley, M.D.
I learned about Dr. Wiley through studying the book, "The Science of Eating" by Alfred McCann. He worked with Dr. Wiley.
Dr. Wiley originated the idea of a Pure Food Law in 1906. This passed Congress, however, when it came time to apply the Pure Food Law, Commercial Interests, who had Profit Motives, kept the law from being applied.
Dr. Wiley was so frustrated by this that he left service at the FDA in 2012. That is what this cartoon is all about:
What Will Be Our Food Future?
This I believe, is as much about education, as is it about protesting. We have much work to do on our hands,
In San Diego, there is already a very healthy burgeoning local Food Movement.
It would be good for more and more people here to become aware of it.
On a positive note, I want to thank the Corporation heads for coming to San Diego to discuss their treaties here.
My Seed Dream that their coming here will help gather more and more people here to take control of our Food Future and Claim Food Freedom.
How do we claim more food freedom now in San Diego?
Do all you can to be the person you can be.

At the July 6 Meeting I will Speak about the California Right to Know Label GMO Food Ballot Initiative.
Right now I am putting full time work into helping to organize a grassroots movement that is so strong in California that no matter how strong the Profit motive behind GMO foods, the people win this one.
We we want to ensure Food Freedom, we all need to make sure that the California Right to Know Label GMO Food Ballot Initiative wins.
People have a Right to Know what is in their foods.
