BEGINNING PLANT YOUR DREAM BLOG
ON ASKING PERMISSION
I created my first video, spending about
twenty hours doing this. It took me about three
versions to get it right, however I was still having
issues with sound. I published
the Video on Youtube.
I began to send the video around to friends
and started to receive a very positive response.
I sent it to a dear friend, a Rabbi in L.A.
and a lawyer who has worked for Debbie Friedman
imagining that he would he would enjoy this little video.
I was surprised to receive a response letting me
know that although it thought the video was lovely,
that I needed to have written permission from the copyright
holder to put this out.
The song I videod was a rendition of a Debbie Friendman
piece called Sow in Tears. Reap in Joy!"
It turns out that the estate of Debbie Friendman is O.K.
with a choir singing her song, in this case an adaptation
of her song, but I learned that for me to video this song
required a license.
I have spend a few days ponder what to do about this.
I have been exploring other music for the video,
and wanted to find music that I could legally use.
My friend, Eve Ilsen had given me permission to use
her song "Nature Boy." This is my signature song.
On the same CD there is a lovely song called "If We Only Have Love."
I had never heard of this song before. I thought from
the way the cover was created, that she had written
the song.
I wrote her, wanting to make sure she had the copyright.
I felt sensitives to this issue after my experience with the
Debbie Friedman song.
Eve responded by tellling me that she did not know if there
would be a copyright problem. She told me to get in touch
with the estate of Jacques Brel.
I learned from my lawyer friend and Rabbi that indeed
I would need permission from the estate of Jacques Brel
to use this work. It is one thing for an artist such as Eve
to record a CD using a piece of music. It is legally another
thing to take that music and attach it to a video.
This is important information for everyone to know.
WHAT TO DO
The video was already on Youtube and in some
small circulation. This was exciting to me.
I realize that it is possible to do an audio Swap
so I can direct others to a version that will have
music that I can legally use.
I am in the process of doing this audio swap now.
I am also continuing to work on the video.
Through the audio swap version, I will guide people
to the updated version as I finish it.
The little video has an important message for me.
Putting it out is a healing process.
Going through the steps to get it out is also
part of a healing process.

I do a lot of non- profit work
. I would appreciate very much if you would give me permiission
to use her song by Jacques Brel in a little Youtube
I want to make. I would appreciate this very much.

I went to an international gathering July 1-3.
I am a beginner maker of Youtubes with about 100 of them so far.
I shot some footage of a most delightful choir singing a rendition of
a Debbie Friedman song, called "Sow in Tears.. Reap in Joy!
When I sent this little 3 minute video to my ally, a friend, Rabbi, and Lawyer,
he informed me that he thought that the video was lovely, but under no circumstance could
I put this out without the written permission of the copyright holder.
He did not sense that the copyright holder would give permission.
I then contacted my friend Eve Ilsen who has recorded a CD
called "If We Only Have Love!" This song fits the images very well.
The little video tells my own healing story and also features some images from the remarkable gathering.
It would be a great honor to have permission to use her song.
My friend, the lawyer tells me that I would need the permission of the estate of Jacques Brel to do this legally.
I am a very popular internet writer.
I do much non profit work to help the cause of good eating, education, and sustainable living.
Under what circumstances could I use Eve Ilsen's recording?
She has given me permission to use her rendition of singing Jacque Brel's song.

I do not imagine I will be earning money directly from this little video,

MY HISTORY WITH THIS SONG
I was firsr introduced to this song when I heard it on
a CD by Eve Ilsen, the wife of Rabbi Zalman Schacter-Salomi.
It is a lovely rendition of the song that has been recorded many
times by many outstanding artists among them
Johnie Mathis.
