It is my hope that the Organic industry, and those
invested in conventional Non GMO farming, and those invested
in Non GMO farming will also invest in the AAAS.
I was part of the press corps of AAAS at its
2010 annual meeting in San DIego.
It was there I met Robert Farley, phD, the Father
of Round Up Ready Agriculture. We planted seeds
to close the gap in understanding between GMO lovers
and Organic lovers.
My personal preference is that all GE foods be labeled,
and that there no longer be GMO foods within a period of years.
I am also invested in the Organic Center,
that has produced the follow video.
Eight of my photos appear in this documentary.

Organic Trade Association honors Senator Sherrod Brown
Senator Brown to receive 2011 Public Servant Award
Contact: Barbara Haumann (802-275-3820; bhaumann@ota.com)
Washington, D.C., (March 7, 2011)—The Organic Trade Association (OTA) today announced it will honor Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio with its 2011 Public Servant Award next month. Senator Sherrod Brown, a first-term Democrat from Ohio, will receive OTA’s highest award for a public servant during OTA’s 2011 Policy Conference and Hill Visit Days in Washington. OTA Board President Julia Sabin, General Manager of Smucker Natural Foods, and Timothy P. Smucker, Chairman of the Board and Co-CEO of The J.M. Smucker Company, will be on hand to present the award during the conference sessions Wednesday morning, April 6, at the Hall of the States here in Washington. The J.M. Smucker Company's corporate headquarters is located in Senator Brown's district in Orrville, Ohio.
“We are truly excited at this opportunity to honor Senator Brown for being a true friend and supporter of the organic industry. He and his staff have been more than willing to reach out to OTA about any legislation that would impact or present opportunities for the industry,” said Christine Bushway, OTA’s Executive Director and CEO.
His support played a key role in OTA’s legislative successes during 2010. Senator Brown sponsored the Organic Pilot Program, added to the Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act by the Senate Agriculture Committee without opposition. This program authorizes $10 million for competitive grants for schools to incorporate organic foods in their meal offerings. Additionally, he and his staff worked to ensure that organic interests were included in the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act. Specifically, he included an amendment to the traceability and record-keeping section of the bill to allow for food directly marketed from farmers to consumers or to grocery stores and food labeled with the identity of the farm which produced it. That amendment also prevents FDA from requiring any farm to keep records beyond the first point of sale when the product leaves the farm, except when farms co-mingle product from multiple farms.
Senator Brown was elected to the Senate in 2008 after serving 13 terms in the House of Representatives. He is chairman of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development and Family Farms, and a member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration and Related Agencies.
Established in 2009, OTA’s Public Servant Award recognizes and honors individuals in government who have shown outstanding support for organic agriculture and trade. The OTA’s Public Servant Award was first given to Senator Patrick Leahy (VT) in 2009. In 2010, the award was given to Congressman Collin Peterson (MN-7).
The Organic Trade Association (OTA) is the membership-based business association for organic agriculture and products in North America. OTA is the leading voice for the organic trade in the United States, representing over 6,500 organic businesses across 49 states. Its members include growers, shippers, processors, certifiers, farmers' associations, distributors, importers, exporters, consultants, retailers and others. OTA’s Board of Directors is democratically elected by its members. OTA's mission is to promote and protect the growth of organic trade to benefit the environment, farmers, the public and the economy.
