MY TAKE
JUNE 6, 2011
!000 years from now,
we will look back at events today
and see a major transformation.
It is through the contributions of
organic advocates such as Kelly Shea,
VP of Government Relations for White Wave
and Organic Stewardship, that these transformations
are taking place.
The transformation I speak about is as fluid as milk,
and organic milk.
What does OTA President Christine Bushway mean
in her response to the Tree Hugger piece by
when she says in the last line of this article:
"For now I'll give the last word to Stephens,
"United, we will accomplish more.
As it is said, you catch more bees with honey
than you do with vinegar."
--Christine Bushway, CEO Organic Trade Association
in the June 2 Treehugger response
to accusations that OTA is tainted.
THIS IS MY TAKE
What do you imagine that an Organic Lobbyist
group does in Washington?
They are their to put over their point of view.
What do you imagine that a VP of Government Relations
for Horizon Organic Milk or a board member for Horizon
Organic Milk is their to do if their job is Organic Stewardship?
They are in Washington to shift points of view toward
organic! How is this done?
It is done through good will and masterful bridge building.
This is how votes in Washington D.C are made
and friends are made. They are made with honey
not with turning off people who do not know or understand
your position.
Kelly Shea is a master at making friends.
Her allegiance to the OTA mission of moving the organic agenda
along was clear to me when I saw her in action at the
Natural Product Expo West March.
I asked her to help me, as an ally and member of the press,
to help mark out my calendar. We both went to hear our
mutual ally Jeffrey Smith, one of the lead proponents of the
movement to have GMO's Labeled.
Horizon Organics was the lead sponsor of the Organic Farming
Research Foundation luncheon at the Natural Product Expo West,
one of the primary networking functions of the Organic Stakeholders.
They are a major funder of organic farming research.
They are also a major funder of the Organic Center,
the lead organization promoting the Organic Agenda
through Real Science.
ALL COMPANIES WHO WILL SURVIVE
WLL COME BACK TO THE ORGANIC STANCE
This is my point of view!
We are in the middle of a return to Nature's Original Technology,
each of us being an Organic Uprising.
This point of view includes labeling of GMO Foods,
and supporting organizations like OTA, who on very
limited budgets in comparison to the major GE companies
are doing tremendous work to advance public education
toward the Organic Agenda.
It does a disservice to OTA and main line organic advocates
like Kelly Shea to attempt to damage their reputation.
This is my point of view.
WHAT ABOUT KELLY SHEA HAVING STOCK
IN THE PARENT COMPANY DEAN FOODS?
I will ask here about this when we talk.
My sense is that as a VP of Government Relations
for White Wave, a subsidiary of the Parent Company,
it would be natural for her to be given stock in the parent
company, or have investments in the parent company.
IF I wanted to transform the parent company
of Dean Foods, or for that matter White Wave or
Horizon Organic to a more refined game,
I would hire someone like Kelly Shea to be on my team.
Do you get what I am saying?
My end result is a transformation through honey
not vinegar. When you turn off the elected reps
you do not get your point across.
There are more and more business leaders who know
very little about organic coming into the organic marketplace.
This is a fact of life. They want to be here.
They want to be where the success is going.
They want to get off the bandwagon of other approaches
to GE that are doomed to failed.
Some of them do not know that GE is doomed to fail,
as you and I enter into open Dialogue on Science, Ethics,
and Food.
I welcome you to do that with me
on the Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Food Facebook site
here.
SO DO YOU GET MY POINT?
Many, many organic companies wanted to expand.
They wanted to be more successful.
They wanted to reach the mainstream.
Companies like Dean wanted to be buy up these very
successful organic companies. Dean was already in
the milk business.
I am sorry but that is the way of the world.
Many, many of the organic companies are subsidiaries
of the larger companies who are still invested in
Genetically Engineered foods.
The only way they will get uninvested is through
contact with likeable people who take time to befriend them.
That is what winning friends is all about for the
organic agenda.
The world has always been organically grown,
but for the blip on the screen of the last 100 years.
We will return to organic.
That is why I say we all need to get our beat back with nature.
The kind of fragmented world we are in now goes back
to most of us having lost our beat with nature.
The world is so big, we can easily point out
the apparent wrongdoings of others and imagine
they are in a conflict of interest.
This is not necessarily the case.
THERE IS NO PROOF THAT OTA
HAS NOT BEEN TRUE TO ITS MISSION
The Organic Trade Association (OTA) is a relatively
small but highly effective lobby organization.
There main mission was never to be 100 consumed
by the movement toward GE labeling or away from
GE use.
This is not to say they have not made strong position
statement against GE labeling.
To lay the blame for non labeling on the OTA
is to assume that this is their primary job.
It is not the sole purpose.
OTA has significantly helped the Organic Mission.
They are sisters with the other organizations who are
pushing for the Return of the Organic Agenda.
It is misinformation and does all of us a disservice
to rally up the frustration that so many of us fell
about the lack of GE labeling.
What service does it do the whip up and create frenzy
and defame good groups such as OTA or its harding
working board members?
More will come out in the following weeks as Kelly Shea
and Julia Sabin have an opportunity to speak in their own behalf.
These are merely my opinions and what I have personally
experiences as a volunteer photographer for OTA
who came to know some of the organic stakeholders.
it is my hope to further dialogue with both Kelly Shea
and Julia Sabin.
FOR THE PURISTS
There are still some companies such as Eden Foods
who have not been bought out. They are not necessarily
openly traded. They have enough on their hands
just producing BPA free cans!
They best thing you can do is speak with your dollars.
Support the smaller companies who are doing 100 %
in a way that you believe in.
I will make a list for you of these pure companies.
Among them is Dr. Bronners' Magic Soaps who are
very much educators about Fair Trade.
NON PROFITS TO SUPPORT
There are also numbers of Non Profits you will
about here on the Plant Your Dream Blogs
who are deeply involved in taking down GE.
SUPPORT FOR HORIZON ORGANIC
I also want to say.
I am clearly a fan of horizon organic
as well as numbers of the larger organic companies
who are in the middle of the transformation
to help the world become or organic,
and I welcome your support as well.
It is through creating a Tipping point
toward Nature's Original Tech that we will win out.
I am personally into transforming the individuals
through the "honey" approach.
My statement is...
Yes, say No to GMO, but say Yes to
Nature's Original Technology.
We are all making a lot of bad decisions
because we have lost our beat with nature.
I welcome dialogue. I welcome, Monsanto
to give up producing GE for business reasons.
I welcome Bill Gates to stop pitching GE Seeds
to innocent African nations.
I welcome our President to go into his own
organic garden more often, and for his wife
to continue to prosper in her support of
gardening.
I welcome the USDA People Garden Project
to hold true to the organic ideal that they
stated when they started the project!
I welcome Kathleen Merrigan, one of the lead
USDA deputies to continue to do her good works.
She, by the way, has roots in support of the OTA.
I welcome, Michael R. Taylor of the FDA to
stop blocking the inevitable--GE GMO Foods
will be labeled.
I welcome all of us to give up our anger
and start growing a bit of our own food organicallly.
I welcome all of us to support our local organic farmers
starting in our own neighborhoods.
Can you hear me?
Do you get where I am coming from?
I appreciate positive feedback.
STRANGE WORLD WE LIVE IN
Strange world we live in.
No answers that do not have deeper things to look at.
Simple things are seldom done.
That is why I say, Keep The Beet.
Blessings on you.
May you fulfill your Divine Purpose
and leave our world a more beautiful place.

Philippe Cousteau’s Inspiration Speech To The Organic Farmers Research Foundation At The Natural Products Expo March 10, 2011
http://www.onlinewellnesscommunity.org/blog/2011/03/philippe-cousteau-gives-k...
The president of Horizon Organic, the sponsor of the OFRF kickoff luncheon stated, “Organic agriculture is a solution to help heal many of our environmental contamination issues. Horizon has helped family organic farmers convert millions of acres to organic including 612 organic dairy farmers nationwide now.” He continued, “We need to work together to leave our children and grandchildren the greatest gift of all, a healthy planet.”
Maureen Wilmott shared OFRF’s vision. “We want to see organic farming being the predominant producers in the future, the leading form of agriculture. We need greater investment in organic farming. The organization needs help from all interested parties as the job is too big for any one organization.”
Philippe highlighted the child obesity epidemic in the United States, mentioning 40% are obese. He added it is shocking that type 2 diabetes is now considered an accepted child disease. He said children need to be taught to eat real food and the government needs to start preventing the manufacture and sale of unhealthy junk food or there is no way there can ever be effective health care reform. He added the implications include a declining standard of living for most Americans; addressing the need for more healthy food production is a key to everything as water, food and shelter are our only needs, everything else are wants and luxuries.
