We have lost our direction,
our beat with nature.
We can regain the beat through
beginning to grow a bit of our own food.
It is the process of growing it
that will reconnect us.
BACKGROUND
I was told to take the Joshua Tree Remedy to work with issues at home.
This remedy releases generational miasms, including issues within the Jewish experience passed from generation to generation, including fears, biogenetically through the lineage of the bloodstream.
Richard Katz, the founder of Flower Essence Services and Society,
did not know at the time that I go yearly on retreat to Joshua Tree National Park
This information is very telling, and informs some of my experience
in the Passover Village. The Passover Village is an archetypal place,
and a literal place where that is created once a year now in the
desert of Joshua Tree National Park during the time of
Passover. The last two years it has ended on Easter Sunday,
giving it added meaning to me.
I sense the Joshua Tree Remedy has come into my life
both for personal healing and the healing of my own,
as well as Jewish Indigenous Roots.
It has come into my life and the life of others now
to do a clearing.
These Plant Your Dream Blogs are intended to
share my personal journey coming out of my very own
desert and places of enslavement.
This journey would not have been possible if this powerful
flower essence remedies had not come into my life
as a gift from Richard Katz and Patricia Kaminski,
allies in the Flower Essence Society.
I am telling my story here, as others have told their
stories and given testimony for the rare gift of healing
that is available to some of us through the Flower Essences.
Flower Essences help hold the Soul, Mind, and Body together
through helping to work with the emotions that often
can be cracks in our internal landscape of connection.
My intend is that my own communion takes me further
in the direction of being all of one piece/peace.
If it serves you as well on your personal journey of awakening,
that would give me pleasure and happiness.
I went to the desert of Joshua Tree in Spring 2011
with the intent to make my own remedy. I did not
find the flowers in bloom. I am grateful to Richard Katz
and Patricia Kaminski for making the remedy available
for the use of those who need this.
I also want to thank Angelene Frattalone, a
healer in in residence in the Enchanted Garden Intentional Community
for pointing me in the direction of the FES Flower Essences.

The flowering of any plant always involves extraordinary receptivity to new cosmic forces. But in the case of Joshua Tree, this activity is both a culmination and a new beginning. Once flowers appear on a branch, it can no longer continue growing. The plant must seek a completely new direction. This unique flowering signature is the central distinguishing quality of the Joshua Tree.
We can go further to understand the significance of this activity, when we realize that for the first decades of its life cycle, the plant does not flower – it only grows upright as a "stem,” with soft tender leaves under the protection of a "nurse plant." Gradually the leaves metamorphose and become much harder and more pointed. The Joshua Tree holds back its flowering impulse for many years, until a certain "hard" maturity is achieved. At the point of flowering the blossoms are full, white and luscious - like moon spheres, whose light they so readily reflect. And yet these "soft" flowers evoke from the plant a new moment of exceptional force and strength, as the plant then orients in a new direction. With each of these conversions, the Joshua Tree develops its striking shape and individual expression.
This same dynamic is also true of the human soul. We are not born as free individualities. Instead we emerge from the cultural milieu of our family, race, community, and nation. Only gradually do we find the strength to create from our own center, and from within our own unique expression of individuality. This process involves an integration of what is receptive to the past, and yet also firmly capable of creating the soul's own future.

A miasm is the homeopathic concept (which I have adapted into Spiritual PhytoEssencing) of a constitutional reactional mode, transmitted from generation to generation bioenergetically rather than genetically. It is my belief that miasms can also be transmitted from one incarnation to the next within the cycle of birth, death and rebirth. The miasm is not an actual disease state, but rather, a complex of constitutional characteristics and reactional tendencies that resemble the thematic pattern of the disease for which it is named.
Accordingly, each of the miasms has characteristic physical and emotional symptoms which, in conjunction, announce its presence. Similarly, many homeopathic remedies, based upon the nature of the symptoms for which they are specific, are seen as having a special affinity for one or more of the miasms. Like homeopathic remedies, essential oils are traditionally described in relation to certain physical, psychological and spiritual symptoms upon which they have been observed to have potential to exert an ameliorating action. It is likewise possible to clearly delineate specific essential oil/miasm affinities through careful study of the symptoms for which an essential oil has been noted to be of potential benefit, and subsequent correlation of those symptoms with the oil’s dynamic properties.
The identification of an individual’s prominent miasmatic influences, and specific essential oil responses to them, helps in differential diagnosis regarding essential oil selection. Also, it opens up a new, heretofore unexplored, dynamic in work with essential oils which enables the practitioner to more effectively penetrate the layers of superficial symptoms in a case and gain access to the germinal, central disturbance on the psycho-spiritual plane.
SYCOTIC MIASM
Constitutionally, everyone is a composite of a variety of miasms, with some being very prominent and others recessive. When I plumb my memories about Richie, I can discern elements of the Psoric and Tubercular miasms. However, the one that is most prominent is the Sycotic miasm.
The name “Sycotic” derives from the word sycosis, an archaic medical synonym for gonorrhea. Some keynote characteristics of the Sycotic miasm are: tendency to make a secret of anything; suspicious; tendency to brood; restricted expression; mental fixation. The Sycotic individual is secretive and is always trying to hide his weaknesses. The constant effort required to cover up a hidden weakness makes everyday life stressful. There is the feeling that this weakness can never be overcome, so covering it up is the only option which leads to the development of fixed habits, traits and ideas.
THE NEED TO PROTECT A SECRET
The need to protect a secret can lead to restlessness, irritability and a brooding quality. The individual may become subject to self-condemnation and so distrustful as to not even trust himself. The Sycotic individual may be ostentatious, hasty, excessive and have a persistent desire to escape or hide—all outgrowths of the stress of preserving a secret. He is subject to abundant, restless thoughts, even to the point of hallucination and is often addicted to fantasies. He is always working toward something and doggedly pursuing it, leading to overhaste and careless error.

Donatella describes the core background for her healing work as "the great honor she was granted for an encounter and awareness of the healing energies of Mother Earth." Through this spiritual experience has come a heightened awareness for the "expression and beauty of flowers," and she has become an instrument for these healing forces since that time.

For several years now I have investigated the Joshua Tree flower essence, both through my own personal experience and that of clients I have supervised. I am impressed with the unique and remarkable healing qualities of this remedy. I would like to begin by commenting on some of the main qualities I have come to note in Joshua Tree flower essence:

Joshua Tree awakens the human identity and gives the individual a distinct awareness of this awakening. I have repeatedly noted a very real phenomenon in the subtle bodies when this flower essence is being used. There is a cohesion of forces that result in a new consciousness of the Self. It is a quality of being "centered" as well as moving from the inside "outward" so that one's life becomes fuller and more self-directed.
Joshua Tree provides a “spiritual structuring force.” This remedy facilitates the unfolding of one's own wisdom and identity, typically submerged in various cultural layers of family, community or other externally derived identities. The soul discovery of an inner, unique individuality gives the strength to face adverse conditions that may have felt insoluble before. Even daily details of life are able to be savoured, and approached with a fresh simplicity.
Joshua tree plays a leading role. When I have used Joshua Tree in various formulas, it seems to play the leading role. Its characteristics are so singular and clear that they do not become muted, even when combined with other flower essences. This capacity could be compared to an orchestra conductor who harmonizes all the other players and their instruments, and leads them toward the best performance.
Joshua Tree differs from the Larch flower remedy, which is also used for self-actualization. Joshua Tree stimulates the core individual Self that involves all aspects of the personality; whereas Larch (photo on right) primarily addresses the distorted emotional perception that "one is not capable." Having observed the effect of Larch on a number of clients, I have found that the healing qualities of Joshua Tree are even more profound and of a different character. For example, one does not find with Larch that the client is as likely to report feeling "centered," or that the client feels life can be mastered through the activation of the Core Self-Identity.
We can understand the clinical indications for Joshua Tree by reflecting on the physical plant itself. This plant thrives in an extreme desert environment. Many specimens can be found growing in a completely solitary manner, while others live in a more obvious community setting. The young trees do not have a branch-making capacity. We can see the upward initial tendency of the young tree with its single stem. As the tree matures, spreading forked branches develop, and the tree acquires more orientation downward toward Earth. Each flower of the tree results in a new branch that grows in a different direction.

This is a valuable remedy for me now....
I get that...
I am feeling up against a wall again at home.
I do not hardly know where to begin to
integrate and be all of one piece here.
When I look straight on to what I have to deal with at home,
it is overwhelming. I feel fearful.
Perhaps, this can be a research report....
I feel this remedy would be valuable to other Jewish people
who are carrying generations of miasms in the bloodstream.
Richard Katz used the word Miasm,
when he was giving me his insights
when I told him about my home condition
and what I felt up against.
He said I had to take action.
All winter I have faced severe emotion around
taking action with the house situation.
