QUOTE FROM
We find ourselves at a crossroads,
now after 40 years and all that has been accomplished,
with all that on the line... to lay out the next 40 years.
The time is now.

FOR ORGANIC UPRISING
STANDING UP FOR NATURE'S ORIGINAL TECHNOLOGY
At the will of the President,
his United States Department of Agriculture--USDA--
gave free reign to The BioTech Industry
to fully grow Genetically Engineered -- GE-- alfalfa
without out any regulation. Near the day this decision
was made--January 27, 2011, I went into my garden
and began growing organic alfalfa. I wanted to
connect with the essence of the this legume
that has been called the Father of all Foods,
the Queen of the Legumes.
From the point of view of alfalfa,
it's organic growth is at the cornerstore
of agriculture as we know it.
THIS ART CAME OF MY FIRST ATTEMPTS
TO GROW THIS SEEDLING
STANDING UP FOR NATURE's ORIGINAL TECHNOLOGY,
ORGANIC UPRISING!
THE DEREGULATION ISSUE
There has been an ongoing court battle to
put Genetically Engineered alfalfa in its place
for a number of years.
The USDA position was for a number of years
was a call for the Co-existence of GE, Conventional
and Organic Alfalfa.
Many organic growers knew that GE seeds and organic
could not co-exist, while others expressed the position
before USDA hearings in Washington in December,
that if co-existence was attempted, the organic industry wanted to be
compensated for damages.
The argument Not to grow GMO alfalfa was never on the table
when some of our Organic Stakeholders met in hearings
in December with the USDA.
When the final decision came down, following in the
close footsteps of giving the FDA power over
Food safety modernization, this was a clear message
from the Biotech Industry that they were positioned to have
their way with Washington as they choose.
I hear the cry of alfalfa
and the soul of humanity calling out for an organic uprising.
I went to the Natural Product Expo West,
March 10-13 with a simple agenda.
I would take four bowl fulls of growing
alfalfa seedlings in BioSmart Compostable
pots. I also took copies of the Art work that
came out of growing these Seeds.
The art and seedlings touched the heart
of many as the videos and images suggest.
A series of video called
Organic Uprising tell the story.

"Often it takes a galvanizing issue to get people to stop bickering and rally around a common cause. Such a renewed sense of purpose was recently provided by the USDA’s approval of genetically engineered alfalfa, which has brought the entire organic industry to its feet. What made me especially happy was seeing key leaders like Walter Robb, co-CEO of Whole Foods, Michael Funk, chairman of United Natural Foods (UNFI), George Siemen, president of Organic Valley and Gary Hirshberg, founder and CEO of Stonyfield, come together to lead a conversation with perhaps 500 organic activists. To me, it offered real hope that organic’s share of the retail food market will indeed manage to get beyond the three percent it currently comprises, and gave me more confidence than I’ve felt in nine years that it will continue to expand. For rising to the challenge created by this ill-advised decision (the alarming implications of which are discussed at the web site of The Organic Center), the leaders of the industry deserve our collective gratitude."

The USDA never fully explained how they imagined
organic, conventional and GE agriculture--Genetically
Modified Agriculture--GMO--might co-exist.
The argument Not to grow GMO alfalfa was never on the table

When the final decision came down, following in the

When the final word came down from the White House
regarding what has been called the deregulation of alfalfa,
I knew that the future of organic alfalfa was threatened
with GE contamination, I heard the cry of alfalfa
and the soul of humanity calling out for an organic uprising.
People around the world were in uprising against
despots at the time alfalfa was deregulated.
Alfalfa has been called the Father of Foods.
It is the #4 food crop, and at the foundation of
culture as we know it.
The USDA position was never to concede that GMO alfalfa
not be grown as many organic growers would have liked
and consumers would have liked.
