Juice fast, Day 4
This is going great!!! Despite the bumps in the road!!!
Date: 3/20/2011 2:57:27 AM ( 13 y ) ... viewed 1519 times I'm pretty stoked that I've already done 4 days. I weighed myself today and I'm at 205, which is 6 pounds lost. I know the number of pounds lost are bigger in the beginning and dwindle down as you go, but I'm happy with it anyway. As I'm typing, I'm seeing that my hands are not puffy. It's sometimes the little things that are surprisingly rewarding.
On the second day of this fast, I did a saltwater flush and I think maybe I'll do another in a couple of days. We'll see. I also want to do a liver flush soon. Using sea salt is a lot easier for me than the epsom salts. I hate epsom salt flushing! It makes me gag just thinking about it. Maybe I can use sea salt instead. But I think it's the epsoms that help dilate the bile duct. I will have to research a little. In the meantime, I've been drinking Smooth Move tea in the evenings to keep things moving. I think that's the only thing I've ever tasted that wasn't really sweet going down, but has a really sweet aftertaste. Weird. I'm also trying some Valerian in my tea to see if that helps me to sleep.
I drank a bunch of vegie juice today and a little bit of fruit juice. It surprises me that I am loving bell peppers so much. Who would have known! But they add such a nice flavor to my juices. And carrot juice to me is so heavenly, almost creamy.
I'm adding a few extras into the routine - some liquid multivitamin; echinacea (I think my defenses are low from all the oregano oil); liver tonic which has dandelion root, Oregon grape root, milk thistle, artichoke, schisandra berry and fennel; a tablespoon of flax oil every couple of days to keep my gallbladder in check; and spirulina because it does all kinds of good things including giving me a boost of energy and a wee bit of protein. The spirulina tastes good to me, too. It seems to mellow out the taste of some of the vegie juice. I was also going to take more oil of oregano, but it's too harsh on my empty fasting stomach. So that can wait till after the fast.
One of the challenges of fasting, for me, is that the side effects are unpredictable. I've been feeling great, but last night I had a sudden onset of anger that lasted a couple hours. I knew that the intensity of it was out of proportion to anything that was actually going on, so I just went to my bedroom to chill out. A couple hours later, I came out and felt fine. So that was no fun for me or my family. I've also had random aches and pains. The first two days I had a terrible pain right in the center of my upper back. Then yesterday and today my lower back and pelvis have been sore. So I feel like I'm rolling with the punches. I keep reminding myself this is all part of the healing. And as much as is possible with two little kids to take care of, I've been trying to honor my need to nap and lay around. I always take care of everyone else, so it's hard to focus on my own needs. Who has the time! Well, now I'm making the time and am feeling pretty good about it.
We loaded the kids into a double stroller this afternoon and had a nice walk. Then I made spaghetti and meatballs for the family for dinner. As I was preparing their plates, I licked the spoon! Heavenly flavor! So I had a few more licks and said to myself, soon enough you'll be eating. Every time I'm tempted I say , soon enough, soon enough. And then I get over it (or try to).
Thanks to everyone out there who shares their struggles and triumphs, too. It's helped me a lot! Happy juicing everybooty.
