I would like this to be among my final words on #S-510.
"He will object to including the so-called food safety bill
in the [continuing resolution],"
Coburn spokesman John Hart said in an e-mail to POLITICO Friday.

It is late here in Washington D.C. (also known as an alternative universe). It snowed all day making getting to meetings with Senate and House Members (and a few reporters) somewhat problematic (except for riding the cool trains between House and Senate offices and the Capitol). In the last two days I have spent my time on the Hill meeting with Senators, Congress Members and staff (who do all the work) to determine the status of the Food Safety Bill where one version passed the House and another passed the Senate - OVERWHELMINGLY - with Republican and Democratic support. Yet, however, it is now on the verge of death as I watch the evening news. Please, stay with me.

We all want real Food Safety.
This Bill never truly offered that.
Food Safety begins from the ground up.
We will get it when we have a million more micro farmers
and gardeners in America
and the Senators and Congressmen holding to the words of
the song America The Beautiful!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till selfish gain no longer stain
The banner of the free!
America! America!
God mend thine every flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law!
America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness
And every gain divine!
O beautiful for patriot dream
...beyond the years
...alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till nobler men keep once again
Thy whiter jubilee!

My heart goes out to all the children and adults that have been harmed by contaminated food. We need to all work together now to Chew on Food Safety: A National Conversation is needed. All sides and every person who eats needs to be a part of a true dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Food.
Please join a year long Campaign to Educate Washington on Real Food Safety.
I have to believe in my heart that our elected representatives want to do the right thing for the American people. Working together we can harmonize our laws with the laws of nature and turn away from attempts to harmonize with international Food Rules. It is time we fully speak openly about what was between the lines in these food safety bills, the Codex Alimentarius Commission. It is time to know we will save the future of our nation through accepting we are all being called back to shift our economic orientation, to balance Nature's Original Technology with the blessings that come to us from a free and open internet that allows all of us to be heard.
I want to thank all from the Tea Party, all from the Sustainability movement, the local food advocates, all the diverse factions of American life who came together to save the future of our food. We truly have reason to thank God this holiday season that His will was done with the putting down of this bill. Tremendous good will come from the year long hard effort that the legislators put in on this. Together let's start to bring the issues to the table. It's time to talk and hear one another. Democracy is no longer a spectator sport.

Republicans might block provisions for food safety amid other cuts in the continuing resolution.

A sweeping food safety measure heralded as a rare Senate victory just a few weeks ago looks like it might fall to the cutting room floor, as senators hammer out the details of a resolution to prevent a government shutdown.
Aides say Majority Leader Harry Reid must strip down the government funding measure to its bare bones so that the Senate can pass it quickly by unanimous consent and send back to the House, which had attached the food-safety measure to its version of the continuing resolution earlier this month. A vote on a package with other items would meet resistance from Senate Republicans, eating into floor time — the most valuable commodity in Congress at the moment as Christmas nears.
Republican Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, who blocked the food-safety bill multiple times in November, would be the most likely troublemaker for Reid if the measure, known as a continuing resolution, includes the food-safety provisions.
"He will object to including the so-called food safety bill in the [continuing resolution]," Coburn spokesman John Hart said in an e-mail to POLITICO Friday.
The food safety measure passed in the Senate 73-25 in November, but a procedural snafu voided the vote. In order to send the bill to the president’s desk, House leaders decided to attach it to the emergency year-end spending legislation.
Other items in the House package likely to get the ax in the upper chamber include funding for stimulus projects and a rule change on offshore drilling that would triple the amount of time Minerals Management Service could sit on permit applications for rigs on the outer-continental shelf, according to a Republican aide.
In the press to keep the government afloat, staffers close to both the original food safety bill and Democratic leadership say they are fighting to keep the language but acknowledge that after a successful campaign by many senators to block a $1.1 trillion omnibus bill loaded with earmarks, moving another budget bill with extras attached is a tall order.
One Republican leadership aide, categorizing the state of the negotiations between party leaders, added that no one from either party wants to be responsible for a government standstill and that a "clean" bill — no matter how popular extras like food safety once were — most likely will be the result of the work between Reid and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).
"The bottom line is that nobody wants to risk a government shutdown, we're 36 hours away, and both sides are working as hard as they can to keep add-ons out of this [resolution] that could jeopardize its ability to pass quickly," the aide said. "Both sides are working to make this a clean resolution."
The House was forced to tack on the food-safety bill to the CR after the Senate bill essentially was voided because it included tax provisions that had to originate from the lower chamber. If the food safety overhaul, which bolsters the Food and Drug Administration's powers to regulate and recall tainted products, fails to clear this Congress, it is unlikely to be revived successfully next year.
"We just want to see whatever vehicle — whatever the [resolution] looks like — we want to see this food-safety bill in it," said Sandra Eskin, director of food-safety campaign at the Pew Charitable Trusts. "This passed overwhelmingly in both houses and didn't move because of a small mistake. I'm sure Mr. Reid knows that."
A spokesman for Reid's office declined to specify which of the extra provisions were still under consideration and aides added that they hope a deal could be struck as early as Friday afternoon. The Senate is in session over the weekend for votes on the DREAM Act and a repeal of "don't ask, don't tell," giving negotiators more time on the Hill to hash out an agreement.

The best idea is to just let the so called food safety bill die altogether. And to allow things as they have been for people to have unregulated gardens and food markets to go unrestrained from those who would control our food supplies and once again all farmers should start to grow all they can and skip the government money for not growing food. Sincerely ;
