Clearly we need a grassroots effort on behalf of natural products. Without one, we’ll see a return to more paternalistic government policies that limit our freedom of choice.
In September 2009, Harkin took the helm of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee after the death of it's former chairman Sen. Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.) at a crucial moment in Obama's plan to overhaul the nation's health-care system. So far, Harkin has cut a lower-profile figure in the debate than many conservatives feared.
