FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

"7th Annual Artivist Film Festival Announces Tour Dates"

JULY 5, 2010, LOS ANGELES, USA: This year’s Artivist Film Festival tour includes Los Angeles (now in its 7th year), London, and New York City.

ARTIVIST will be returning to Tribeca Cinemas in October after completing its 1st New York City tour earlier this year. Presented by its Community Partner, PETROBRAS, the Hollywood based Artivist Film Festival, which raises awareness for humanity, animals and the environment, concluded a successful 3 day run on March 27th at Tribeca Cinemas in New York City.

The New York Artivist Film Tour screened 12 independent documentaries and short films, and collaborated with over a dozen NGOs, primarily "FOTUN" – Friends of the United Nations and Wyclef Jean’s Yele Haiti.
The Tour received praise from filmmakers, UN Ambassadors, NGO's and members of the entertainment community, Founder, Diaky Diaz stated, I was raised in the New York City Foster Care system, and for me to return home with "Artivist", which also focuses on children’s advocacy, is very poignant for me."

The New York Tour began on March 25th with a SOLD-OUT Opening Night Premier highlighting the late Honorable Percy Sutton. The film, “SUTTON: A Man for all Seasons”, captured the history, influence and legacy of one of New York City’s most distinguished Humanitarians. Directed by Jamal Joseph, Professor and Dean of the Columbia University Graduate Film Program, Joseph is a director, poet, artist and activist. As President Barak Obama stated when he heard of Sutton's passing, "Percy's passion for justice began at an early age and never wavered". The Premiere was followed by an evening reception Hosted by renowned New Yorker, Jonathan Tisch.

The Tour concluded on Saturday night with two fascinating films. The first film, "POLIWOOD", directed by renowned Academy Award Director Barry Levinson, explored the collision and collusion between politics and Hollywood. Artivist partnered with The Creative Coalition and Women In Film, (two prominent NGOs in the entertainment industry), to promote the film extensively in New York City. The final film was the SOLD-OUT Premier of “8” which addressed the UNITED NATION’S 8 Millennium Development Goals adopted by 191 governments around the world, to be achieved by the United Nations by 2015. The film featured 8 short films directed by award winning Directors such as Academy Award winner Jane Campion, Mira Nair, Gus Van Sant, Gaspar Noe, and others. “8” address issues ranging from poverty and hunger to gender quality and global water use. The feature film was introduced by Dr. Noel J. Brown, President of FOTUN – Friends of the United Nations, an independent, non partisan UN affiliated NGO dedicated to promoting the principles and values of the UN charter and increasing awareness of its activities. At the conclusion of the screening, Dr. Brown was presented the Artivist International Humanitarian Award for his decades of environmental diplomacy and human rights advocacy.

The inaugural Artivist Film Tour in New York City was received by SOLD-OUT screenings. Celebrities in attendance included Richard Belzer, Giancarolo Esposito, and Community Leaders Dr. Noel Brown, Ambassadors from the United Nations, and a cross section of New York's finest artists and advocates.

The Presenting Partner was PETROBRAS, who continues to support the growth of the international Artivist Film Festival Tour and Artivist Awards.
