Day Six of diet
First proper entry into my new health and weight loss diet - so this was week one....
Date: 6/5/2010 5:24:28 AM ( 14 y ) ... viewed 1960 times My goal with this blog is to help me keep to my diet and manage my chronic depression.
Three years ago I became pregnant, but I lost the baby at 5 months. During those 5 months of pregnancy I became 20kg heavier. I know, thats a lot for 5 months. Next time I will manage my body better.
There I was, hormonal, overweight, and very depressed. I started taking Cypralex (anti-depressant) and went on the 'Sacred Heart' Soup diet. I did not stick to die diet 100%, I still had dinners with my husband, so it took me a year to loose 10kg.
I stopped the soup diet, because it gave me strange skin rashes - much like eczema - on my legs. I do not usually suffer from eczema. In fact, I did not know what eczema was, until I went to the UK in 2000 - it seems the Brits really struggle with eczema.
For a year I bounced between 58/60 kg. Then I read about the wonderful properties of coconut oil. I stated eating spoonfuls. At that stage I was 58kg. Within a month I went up to 62kg. I stopped eating the coconut oil and my weight settled on 62kg. Now I realize, I have to incorporate the good fats, as part of a calorie restricted diet.
Two weeks ago I decided to start with a new diet (can't stomach the soup any more!!) to get me to my target weight of 52kg. This time I am doing calorie counting (for the first time in my life!), and I am finding it very informative.
A nifty site 'NutritionData' helps me with my tracking, and what is especially helpful, is the breakdown I get, which tells me how much of each nutrient I have consumed. So, I can see if I am getting all my essential nutrients, and make changes, to balance my Protein, Carbs and Fats.
I have always done well on a high protein diet, so I have decided to use a modified version of the Zone diet. I have not read the book, but what I can tell, it is basically keeping your intake to a ratio of 40:30:30. Eating a bit of everything with each meal.
This suits me well, because I have to take in a lot of Omega 3. I do this, by using at least 3 tablespoons of Hemp oil per day. Since I went off die anti-depressants, I have been looking at my diet, to see if I am getting everything I need. I have a long history f depression, for almost 20 years now, I have been on and off medication. But I feel the side effects of die meds are starting to overshadow the benefits. The last 2 months I have been supplementing with Hemp oil, and I feel great!
So, I am 60kg at the moment. This coming week I have to restrict my calories to 1292 per day in order to loose 1 kg.
I have a little table:
Calories
Wk Wt(kg) Date
(per day)
- 1977 60
01 1292 59.38
02 1283 58.76 07 - 13 June
03 1274 58.13 14 - 20 June
04 1266 57.51 21 - 27 June
05 1257 56.89 28 - 04 July
06 1249 56.27 05 - 11 July
07 1240 55.64 12 - 18 July
08 1232 55.02 19 - 25 July
09 1223 54.4 26 - 01 Aug
10 1214 53.78 02 - 08 Aug
11 1206 53.16 09 - 15 Aug
12 1197 52.53 16 - 22 Aug
To maintain this weight I will need 1800 per day.
This will be part of my hubbies birthday present - he doesn't mind me being rounder, but I know he likes it when I am in shape. He himself is very lean, naturally.
So, it seems, the fasted I can loose the excess weight, safely, is 3 months. I was hoping for 2 months, but I realize that might be pushing it a bit.
This past week my calorie intake looked like this:
Day 1 1357
Day 2 1366
Day 3 1277
Day 4 1361
Day 5 1334
Day 6 today
Day 7 tomorrow
So, next week I have to keep my intake down to 1283. I struggled keeping the calories at 1292 this week, but, practice makes perfect. :)
I did start doing Yoga too, one hour every day, and I must say, I can feel muscles I forgot I had :)
