Mislabeling of Organic Body Care Product Stimulates Protest

Last weekend’s Natural Products Expo West set an attendance record, organizers say: some 56,000 people from across the country packed the Anaheim Convention Center for the four-day event, which ended Sunday.
The Expo was exclusively business to business and not open to the public. But some of the products on display — from gluten-free brownies to organic shampoo to energy drinks – could well appear on local store shelves.
Friday, the first day of the actual trade show, also saw protesters from the Organic Consumers Association outside the Expo entrance, calling out shampoos and other products they believe do not meet adequate standards defining what is “organic.”

Protest at Natural Products Trade Show to Expose Organic Fraud Protesters Dressed as Giant Shampoo Bottles Vow to Picket Trade Show Entrance
ANAHEIM, CA - Friday, March 12 at 10am, The Organic Consumer's Association (OCA) will hold a protest outside of the largest annual gathering of the natural and organic products industry, Natural Products Expo West. Members of the OCA will picket the entrance to the Expo using creative visual props including 5 ft. tall shampoo bottles to mock mislabeled "organic" products while distributing flyers to educate the public about the lack of regulation in the organic personal care marketplace.
WHO: The Organic Consumer's Association; conscious consumers and other advocates for strong organic standards.
In all my years attending the Natural Product Expo West,
I have never seen a group so upset about an issue
that they would protest.
Last night I ran into Zak Zeidman
of Kopali. He was inside with the Dr. Bronner
Magic Soap family. There are thousands of little
gatherings here at the NPEW.
It was good to visit with old ally Ralph Bronner,
one of the sons of the originator of the Bronner Soaps.
I knew his dad. He was an Essene Rabbi.
I am an Essene Rabbi as well.
A number of the attendees brought to my attention
the protest today.

is very concerned that numbers of companies
in the show are mislabeling their bodycare products
as organic.
I use one of the products of this company,
Giovanni. I may pay them a visit at the show.
I took time to inteview one of the members of
Organic Consumer group. I do not know much about
this issue, but listening to her brought some
of the issues into focus.
I will post some footage on this issue.
Ralph Bronner is a hero of mine.
He does major philanthropic work.
I am going to visit him.
I understand he is concerned about Fair Trade
issues. I am somewhat ignorant on these.
I do not collect too many samples. I am drawn
to the Magic Bronner soaps, especially for teens.
My main focus at this show is moving along
the Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Food,
as well visiting my allies in the natural product
Industry.

I am very weary after sleeping only four hours
last night.
My main focus today needs to be being in shape
for the Organic Center V.I.P. Dinner that begins
at 6:30 PM.
I want to connect with my ally Anthony Zolezzi
today. He delights me with his many projects.
I once brought in picked that morning locally grown
strawberries into our local Whole Foods Market.
The project was basically a giveaway. I wanted
to see if it could be done. Anthony has a
Family Farm non-profit. He sponsored that work.
His Book, "How Dog Food Saved the Earth" is a fictional
account of his own story. He was converted to
organic living when he visited farms and saw the
difference between an organic berry and one grown
in a field with pesticides. The pesticide grown
berry field had no natural buglife.
I have blogged on that before.

This needs to be my continuing focus.
I am asking various questions on the theme
of how Organic, Conventional, and Organic
Farming can co-Exist.
My allies in Biotecn Ag say this is possible.
Others in the Organic point of view say it cannot.
The USDA says it can.
They issues a 1500 page report.
I want to know how.
I will ask George Seimon his point of view.
He represents Organic Valley Coop of Farmers.
My head is very weary right now.

I just met Tina Koenemann
from Westbridge.
She tells me her company is often just called
Westbridge. Westbridge is short
for Westbridge Agricultural Products.

I heard Robert speak down at the
American Association for the Advancement of Science
(AAAS) 176th Annual Meeting in San Diego
February 18-22, 2010. I handed Robert
the Monsanto Company handout that
was on the chairs where I sat, February
February 21, 2010. I told Robert that
I could lessen the tension between GMO and
Organic Lovers. He said he liked where I was
coming from. He wrote me a note that said,
"Let's close the gap." I have a vision
that one day I will be talking about Organic
Food from the stage at BIO, the Biotechnology
Industry Organization, annual meeting.
I have already been press at BIO. There
are many, many beautiful people in the
Biotech industry.
There was a time in my life when I was
totally crippled and could not walk.
I owe my life to Integrative Medicine,
both top surgeons as well doctors of the soil.
Receiving hip revisions in 2001, I went from
Morphine to Boiron's Arnica Montana as my
pain relief. I was trained by Dr. Bernard Jensen,
an elder in the natural healing arts. I am
one of the last Essene Ministers ordained

ANTHONY ZOLEZZI is one of the main inspirations behind
GREENOPS, a new Recycling Redemption project
that launches on Earth Day. GrEENOPOLIS is the
Social Network site. I am sure there are going
to be companies using plastic blottles for years.
This is a great project to make sure that those
producing drinks and other products in plastic
begin responsible for a program that sees
the bottles they sell are returned to the store
that sells it.
