FDA FOOD SAFETY MODERNIZAT ION
ACT BORN UNDER A BAD SIGN?
Today is a Solar Eclipse, January 4, 2011.
President Barack Obama signed into law
The Food Safety Modernizat ion Act.
The Bill passed the Senate on
December 21, the day of the Winter Solstice
and a lunar eclipse.
Some in the astromomy and astrology
world might say, that this move
to modernize Food Safety was born
under a bad sign.

It's time for GMO and Organic Lovers,
and those from every "flavor"
of Agriculture to talk.
That is what the Dialogue on
Science, Ethics, and Food is all about.
The premise of our discussion
was inspired by DoSER,
Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Religion.
DoSER is a standing Program
of the American Association for the
Advancement of Science (AAAS).
AAAS had its 176th Annual Meeting
in San Diego March 18-22.
I attended the Reception of DoSER.
I watched Frances Collins, head of the
NIH speak speak about his recommendation
of Jennifer Wiseman to the new directorship
of DoSER. Collins and Wiseman are both
people of Faith as well as science.
Bridging Science and Society was the theme
of the AAAS meeting.
How about building a bridge between Science,
Ethics, and Food?
Tom Villsack, our Secretary of Agriculture
asks public comment in this Youtube for the USDA
project called Know Your Farmer. Know Your Food.
There is a 1500 page report issued by
the USDA that concludes that GE, Conventionally grown foods,
and Organic Foods can Coexist. A public comment period
finished March 3, 2010.
One of the questions I have, what is the plan?
How will GE Foods, Conventional Ag, and Organic
growing co-exist? These are issues of our time
that will influence the very nature of human evolution
on the planet.
Are you tuned in?
In recent weeks I have had the opportunity to meet
and ask Rayne Pegg of the USDA, A.G. Kamamura,
California Secretary of Agriculture this question.
I met Robert Fraley, the father
of Agricultural Biotechnology, and Tami Craig Schilling,
Public Affairs Director for the Monsanto Company.
One of the most influential
proponents for increasing productivity by 2030,
I heard Dr. Fraley express this idea that GE
and Organic Agriculture can coexist.
My premise for the dialogue is that our world
is better served as we get to know one another
on a first name basis.
With issues as this, as well as laws concerning
Food Safety now before the Senate, #s510,
the Food Safety Modernization Act, it is essential
that I educate myself deeply about these issues
and share what I learn here
on the Plant Your Dream Blog.
It is a gift that I am now meeting with national policy
makers. My intent is to cultivate relationships
among those in all sides of the spectrum of
Agriculture.
On February 21, I planted seeds with Robert
Fraley to lessen the tension between GMO and
Organic Lovers. Those seeds continue to grow
in a pot with other seeds from other points of view.
Dr. Fraley heard where I was coming from.
He wrote me a note. The note said,
Leslie, Let's close the gap."
This art was created February 21 in the early
morning hours. I showed it to Robert T. Fraley
after his talk.
A gap does exist between us all.
We live in different worlds and we are at the same
time living in one world.
The ability to see from all sides
is a gift I consciously root, as is a daily
yearning to share compassion with those I meet,
to accept and be accepted.
THE NATURAL PRODUCT EXPO WEST
The Natural Product Expo West,
March 11-14 was the official beginning
of my yearly season. It is here where I met
my allies in the field of Natural Products and
Organics. I came to gain support
for the Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Food.
The support was profound, with leaders
such as Wat Robb, co-ceo of Whole Foods Market,
Gary Hirshfield of Stoneyfield Yogurt ( That's him
in Food, inc.), and Jeffrey Smith ("Seeds of Deception"),
all willing to talk.
Monsanto Company was Forbes
company of the year 2010. Curiously, when I first went
looking for Monsanto Company at BIO, the Biotechnology
Industry Organization meeting in San Diego in 2008,
The only packet of organic seeds I found in the whole
conference was from a group in St Louis.
There is a part of me that wonders,
what would it be like if Monsanto Company
had an organic division, and found it in their
best interest to not only support GE seeds,
but make sure that organic seeds, here for
thousands of years, also thrive?

I am Your Enchanted Gardener.
I do dream.
Toward the Dialogue on Science,
Ethics, and Food, I have planted seeds,
and they are growing.

It is late and I have lost my perspective.

YOUTUBE NOTES--
FIRST DRAFT
The Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Food was born from the inspiration of the American Association for the Advancement of Science 2010 Annual Meeting. DoSER, the Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Religion is building a bridge between Science and the Faith Communities. DoSEF aims to build lessen the tension between Science, Ethics and Food. It's time that GMO and Organic Lovers, and agriculturists in every brand begin to talk. The premise of our dialogue is that we each live in different worlds. "Lettuce" Grow Together! The Dialogue begins on the Plant Your Dream Blog. This intro Youtube features A.G. Kawarmura, the Secretary of Agriculture of California, Robert Fraley, the Father of Agricultural Biotechology, and Rayne Pegg, Administrator Agricultural Marketing Services for the U.S.D.A. The dialogue intents to make no one wrong, but look at the future of our earth and the solutions across the spectrum. The interviewer is Leslie Goldman, Your Enchanted Gardener, who planted beet seeds--organic in fact with Robert Fraley when they med at the AAAS 176th Annual Meeting. Join the dialogue. "Leslie, let's close the Gap." Leslie Goldman, AKA Your Enchanted
Gardener, was given a U.N. Peace Medal for the work he would do in his life. This is the work I was born to do. "The Ultimate Gardener" (2008), a book listing Charlie Narzozzi, as author, was inspired by Your Enchanted Gardener, whose constant companion is KEEP The BEET Media Star, The World's First Talking Beet . Plant. "I am rooting for you all to close the gap," says Keep the Beet, our nation's Czarina of Foods
is heard introducing Robert T. Fraley.

Time to balance out.
Washington is now Pro-GMO.
That is the going science in Washington.
Time to look at the science we are backing
and review. Time to dialogue openly and
ethically about food. The food chain in the ocean
and on land is now being impacted by the
decisions we have made. Do we want
to more fully support or reevaluate now
our choices? Let's openly look and review
our science as well as our ethics.
There are approximately 23 Plant Your Dream Blogs
written between February 18-25 on my experience
at the 176th Annual meeting of AAAS This represents
approximately 60 hours of work. I have
20 more hours of debriefing and followup I would
like to do about the conference.
If you would like to be a sponsor
for these freelance writings that are intended
to further the dialogue, please contact me through the
email above, or through my personal email.
Your name will be listed on
a blog of sponsors of the dialogue, or you may
