Haiti: Natural Disaster before The Earthquake
Natural disaster existed in Haiti before the earthquake.
It's time we redefine how we interact with each other
as a natural disaster. It's time we recognize that there
are consequences for allowing imbalances between people--
extremes between "Haves" and "Have Nots."

HISTORY OF HAITI
ON WIKIPEDIA
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Haiti
Haiti is the world's oldest black republic and the second-oldest republic in the Western Hemisphere, after the United States. Although Haiti actively assisted the independence movements of many Latin American countries – and secured a promise from the great liberator, Simón Bolívar, that he would free their slaves after winning independence from Spain – the nation of former slaves was excluded from the hemisphere's first regional meeting of independent nations, held in Panama in 1826. Furthermore, owing to entrenched opposition from Southern slave states, Haiti did not receive U.S. diplomatic recognition until 1862 (after those states had seceded from the Union) – largely through the efforts of anti-slavery senator Charles Sumner of Massachusetts.

Our President sends condolences to Haiti. The words ring hollow. His concern for the people of Haiti has been less than zero. Although more than 100,000 lives were extinguished in 60 seconds by the recent quakes, slow painful deaths resulting from US economic policy dwarf this number. Currently, 30,000 Haitian residents of the US are scheduled for "removal", and the earthquakes have given them only a temporary reprieve, while many wait in Homeland Security compounds like the one at left.

One of my housemates was pulling pennies
together to give to another tonight.
The money was intended to go to Haiti
to assist the people who are suffering
from this natural disaster.
I wanted to check YOUTUbES for life in Haiti
before the Earthquake.
What has been going on there before the
earthquake was already a natural disaster.
I believe natural diaaster breeds more natural disaster.
I have been watching earthquakes for more since
my days writng for the SAN FERNANDO SUN Newspaper
in 1971. I was editor of that weekly newspaper--editor
for only two weeks. During the time I was editor
the San Fernarndo Valley earthquake hit.
I was on the frontlines.
I gained personal experience observing
and participating.
I wrote about that antural disaster before the earthquake,
during the earthquake, and after the earthquake.
There was clearly, in my experience, a relationship
between the interactiions between the people before
the natural disaster, how they behaves toward each other,
their history, and the land, that was a determining factor
in the result.
The second L.A. earthquake--the one of in Northridge
years later--was had very few deaths. IF the same earthquake
had occurred the day before or the day after at the same time,
the outcome of death would have been different.
The earlthquake occurred on a national holiday,
MARTIN LUTHER KING's Birthday.
lives were saved because we made a national holiday
honoring this man's life.
There is much to say about this theme.
Be aware of how you are personally participating
in natural disaster.
There is a little poem I wrote on
this theme.
AN EARTHQUAKE
DOES NOT SAY EXCUSE ME
An Earthquake is a fault in communication.
It is a cumulative explosion from what has not been said.
An Earthquake does not say, "Excuse me,
are you ready for this?"
There is a time to be courteous and well-mannered,
to ask "do you have ten minutes to hear this?
There is also a time when feelings burst forth.
Better we do it than the earth.
