I live in a household where there has been considerable talk about a number of burning issues. One of these issues is water. I am at a point where I have heard enough talk in my household about collecting water. IMO it's time for action. I'd like to begin seeing "rain barrels" placed strategically around the house. With enough rain barrels we can become substantially less dependent on the municipal water system. We can have two barrels right outside our kitchen window. We could collect the rinse water from the kitchen sink and put that in one barrel with a hose at it's base which then could water most of our plants around the house. We could have another couple "rain barrels" on the garden side of the house and collect the gray water from our lower laundry and bath area that I could water the compost piles with. Then we could collect rain water for washing dishes, clothes and possibly more. Altogether it would make a difference!
