I feel betrayed by the FDA
and the Congress for passing
#HR 2749 without thoroughly vetting
this bill.
After all I have read,
studying closely the work
of MICHAEL TAYLOR,
his relationship with current FDA
past FDA, and Monsanto,
I feel he and the House of Representatives
are quilty of Unamerican activities
that need to be addressed
by our nation.
Thank you to #HR2749 for
opening the eyes of millions
of us. I know we will all
come out much cleaner
by the time a true bill
for FOOD SAFETY ENHANCEMENT
is passed through the Senate
and all Committees sworn
to uphold our Constitution.
I cannot believe that I am writing this.

In addition, FDA is leading an effort
through the Codex Alimentarius Commission,
the international food safety standards body,
with support of the Food and Agriculture Organization
World Health Organization, to develop
commodity-specific annexes
to the Codex hygienic code for fresh fruit
and vegetable production,
starting with an annex for fresh leafy
vegetables and herbs.
In June 2009, FDA conducted the first Codex international
elechonic working group with members of the Codex Committee
on Food Hygiene (CCFH)
to advance the drafr Annex for Fresh Leafy Vegetables
to the next stage of completion. In November 2009,
CCFH will consider how to proceed
with the next tier of priority commodities.

If President Obama's new Food Safety Working Group
dedicates all their time and credentials
to prevent future food recalls,
they will have saved thousands of people--
but forsaken millions.
Over the last decade,
our radically changing diet has ushered
in the explosive growth of food-related ailments,
such as allergies, asthma, obesity, diabetes,
autism, infertility, gastro-intestinal disorders,
and learning disabilities. Of all the changes
in our food, the most dangerous transformation
was the introduction of genetically modified (GM) crops.
When these gene-spliced concoctions, such as GM soy,
corn, canola, and cottonseed, came on the scene in 1996,
the proportion of Americans suffering from three
or more chronic ailments was 7%. After just 9 years,
that nearly doubled to 13%. GM foods are the prime suspect.
Government policy at odds with science
Until now, the government has sidestepped
the controversy by hiding behind FDA policy,
which asserts that genetically modified organisms (GMOs)
are "substantially equivalent" to natural foods and therefore
don't require any safety studies. But as Obama acknowledged,
"many of the laws and regulations
governing food safety in America" are outdated.
