I just turned on the C-SPAN.
This is a very dangerous bill, #HR 2749.

Consumers Union Urges Immediate House Passage of Food Safety Enhancement Act
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Consumers Union, the nonprofit publisher of Consumer Reports magazine, today urged the U.S. House of Representatives to pass a much-needed overhaul of the nation's food-safety system, the Food Safety Enhancement Act (H.R. 2749), when the House meets on Wednesday, July 29. While the House Energy and Commerce Committee approved the bill in June by a unanimous voice vote, Rep. Frank Lucas, the ranking Republican on the House Agriculture Committee, has raised objections to the bill and urged its delay.
Jean Halloran, Consumers Union's campaign director for food safety, said, "After months of hearings and bipartisan cooperation, this bill is on the verge of passage and should not be derailed."

Chris Clayton noted yesterday at the DTN Ag Policy Blog that, “Rep. Frank Lucas, R-Okla., ranking member on the House Agriculture Committee, sent a letter Thursday to committee Chairman Collin Peterson, D-Minn., asking Peterson to assert jurisdiction over H.R. 2749, the Food Safety Enhancement Act.
“Dear Mr. Chairman:
“During the Committee on Agriculture’s hearing on food safety last week none of the producer witnesses supported the current food safety legislation. I am writing to you to request that you (1) assert this Committee’s jurisdiction over H.R. 2749, the Food Safety Enhancement Act of 2009; (2) hold hearings on the impact H.R. 2749 will have on farmers and ranchers across the country, and proposals on ways to improve the existing legislation; and (3) hold a mark-up of H.R. 2749 in the Committee on Agriculture.”
